    Turkeys that Curtsey

I was wondering if someone can help me as I am new to Turkeys. I have 4 turkeys I have raised from poults (3 Narragansett and 1 Royal Palm). 2 have small beards. They are about 8 months old and I haven't seen them displaying and when I come into the yard they all get low to the ground and...

    Egyptian Geese

I am surprised they are protected since they are not native. I have friends that get them coming through every once in a while. I know the New Orleans Zoo used to be overrun with them. Personally I would recommend clipping their wings if you get a chance and pinioning the wings of any babies...

    excessively aggressive gosling?!

Miss Lydia, feel free to mean to go against what I am saying; I am not sure I am right either. For me it would be worth a try since it communicates to adults it might well communicate to goslings as well...or it might not.

    excessively aggressive gosling?!

That is unusual behavior. Is he kept in a confined area with limited grazing and other things to do? If so that might be part of the problem also. I agree with Miss Lydia that if it is a lone gosling that might also be a major contributor to the poor behavior. Personally if he bit me I would...

    Geese on Blackberry Canes

Thankfully I have never had to deal with bumble-foot but I think I have seen it mentioned on here a fair bit. I am pretty sure the chickens will be fine since they go into similar areas all the time and haven't had trouble. The geese for the most part don't have blackberry canes where they...

    Geese on Blackberry Canes

I am keeping my geese (along with chickens and a turkey) in a 3 sided shed with the open side fenced in. I did so in order to grow some rye grass for the winter. To the side of the shed I have an area that has been left wild under a huge Water Oak tree. A couple months ago I went in and cut...

    Opinions on Possible Crossbreeds

Quote: I think most would agree with you. I also agree that in the case you mentioned the offspring are almost certainly sterile. I would say the majority are going to be sterile. The vast majority of Mules are sterile. However, it can happen that sometimes a female mule will be able to...

One goose no longer runs with the others? Anything wrong?

I would be inclined to believe there is a health problem that you cannot observe. Sometimes they shun a sick goose perhaps for the same reasons we stay away from someone with pink-eye. If she was laying eggs I think she would behave normally until it was time to sit and this would not be the...

American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

A reputable breeder will also gladly offer to let you keep the geese and send you the geese you ordered (when they become available) or give you a refund.

American(Buff, Blue, Lavander, etc.)goose thread! Post pics!

Introduced Wild Bar-headed geese are very uncommon in the U.S. So if the breeder isn't keeping them it would be unlikely that such a meeting would happen. You also have to wonder if a bar-headed gander would mate with a goose that is 3 or 4 times his weight. The breeder should be able to...

    Opinions on Possible Crossbreeds

Common sense would seem to suggest that it should be legal. Especially because you did not take them from the wild and they were sold to you as domestics. I was wondering for my own interests as well since I would like get some offspring from my friend's hybrid but would want to be able to...

    Opinions on Possible Crossbreeds

They are not real rare but definately cool to have. Around here it isn't uncommon. My friend has a large pond with lots of Canada geese and I am pretty sure one of them is mixed but it sure looks more like 75+% Canada than a 50/50 mix. I don't think anyone should make a fuss but I wonder...

    Opinions on Possible Crossbreeds

Yes, definitely a Canada mix and most likely sterile.

    Rookie Mistake

I think kids bring it out in them sometimes. My old gander bit by dad on the butt once while he was holding my little girl. He had been out by the pond before but I guess the gander saw his chance.

    Geese shelter

I currently lock mine up at night because my Barheaded Geese are quite small and expensive. That being said I have had geese that I haven't locked up at night and have never lost one. My friend has a huge property and he keeps a couple geese free range. He has Bald Eagles, Osprey, Bobcat...

    Geese shelter

I don't know much about sheds. I have a large metal shed they go in at night. Some people use smaller units for nesting boxes which I might try this next year but in the past I just let them lay where they choose which is usually in the metal shed.

    Geese shelter

I don't think they would be interested in going into separate boxes.
