Ok, thanks! I will wash her again! Skin looks normal and healthy that I can see. I will check on her and give her another bath tomorrow and repost with my results!
Hello everyone! I have a 24 week old BO hen who has been having severe poopy feather issues for a couple days now.
Last night I tried to wash and dry her off as best I could. This morning I was hoping to see a nice fluffy bottom but instead I found this:
(Picture included) none of my 5 other...
That's what I was looking for and thought her feathers were kind of pointy. None of the other girls look like this chicken. Her feathers are kind of raggedy and slimmer looking then the rest.
Thanks for the info!
A couple of my hens have started laying last week, I have 6 18 week Buff orpingtons.
None of them have started crowing (yet) but I'm wondering if this particular bird is a rooster or a hen.
When do they usually start to crow?
I'm within the city limits and not allowed to have roosters...
Found my 1st egg with a shell intact yesterday!
A little misshapen and wrinkly, but an egg nonetheless!! Laid at exactly 18 weeks!
A month ahead of schedule for an Orpington too!
(Also a picture of the girls enjoying some chopped boiled egg with egg shell and oyster shell mixed in yesterday!)
Thank You! I have been doing that, I will continue to keep an eye on her, it's hard to get a picture of her rear because I have to gold her and take a picture all while holding her butt feathers out of the way lol!
But I'll do my best!

I have a 17 week old buff Orpington hen who has been acting a little off the past couple days. (Beak open, little bit of white mucous on rear feathers.)
Today at request of other members of back yard chickens I managed to get a photo...

Here is a picture of her bottom area!
I don't see the mucous today, but her feathers seem dirtier then the other hens backsides, and in her vent seems very red to me!
I hope she will be ok!
I tried to get them to be on the roosting bars instead of the nest boxes when I 1st put the chicks in the henhouse, but they broke down the barrier I put up, and all crowded into one corner of it so I gave up and just let them do it. But I did remove them from the hen house and put them in my...
I have been giving them apple cider vinegar and crushed egg shells.
I will keep an eye on her, today she seemed to be doing better, but it's cloudy/rainy today so it may be weather related?
