I got pecked twice today from one of my year old buff orpingtons. When I went to the run and let them out (I do this daily and let them play around for about an hour) I reached down to pet her which she really doesn't like. Well, she came over to me when I sat down and she pecked my foot. I...
Hello, I have a buff orpington that after she eats, she shakes her head, scratches her ears and opens her mouth like trying to pop her ears. I have read the info about cleaning her ears, then insert peroxide and then Neosporin. I have done this twice now and she continues to act the same way...
Thanks for all the info. Average temps here for Dec - Feb 61-41. Sometimes we dip down to the teens. My coop has 2 windows approx. 2'x2'. Also a screen door for the summer and a wood door for the winter and there opening to come in and out.
There are little gaps around the top and bottom...
Thank you for starting this post. I have been wondering what to do for the winter. We live in NE Texas (between Royse City and Greenville). I have 8 buff orpingtons. I purchased sleeping bags at a thrift store to staple to the inside of the coop along the walls for insulation. I hope this...
I have only been a chicken keeper since March, however; in the beginning my girls would not go into the coop at night. My neighbor suggested putting them in the coop and locking them up for a few days. That worked for me, but it was much cooler weather than it is now. Maybe someone will be...
Hi, I'm new to all this chicken care. I locked up all our girls for a few days in the coop when they wouldn't go in at night. That worked for me and now they all go in at night. I'm not sure with two new girls and the one you already have. Are they getting along? You might want to start a...
Thanks to all for the suggestions. I have been letting the girls out for about 20 minutes at a time and they absolutely love it. They are really pretty easy to round up and get back in the run. I'm learning how to catch them if needed. I love my girls.
Good day to all,
I have 8 orpington chickens and this is the very first time I have ever had chickens. I have only had them about 3 months. They have a nice run and a coop. My question is, If if decide to let them out for an hour or so to explore in the grass, (every now and then) with my...
We have 8 chickens that were not going into coop at night. I shut them up in there for 3 days and now they go in every night. Do get some meal worms and when you go to the chickens, shake the bag. They get use to getting the treats with the shaking of the bag and come running. Try and see how...
Hello, I had kept them locked up in the coop for 3 days. After letting them out, I guess they finally figured it out the coop was a good safe place to sleep instead of huddled up in a corner in the run. I am so happy they did.
I let the chickens out this past Saturday morning. Checked on them just at 'dark thirty' and they were all in the coop on their roost. I was a happy chicken Mother.
