So hears the deal: I have 2 broody hens. I sold my roosters last year so none of my eggs are fertilized. Would it be possible to place day old, hatchery chicks under my hens? Would the hens accept the chicks? Would the chicks accept the hens?
My alpine doe is 148 days into her pregnancy. Yesterday she lay down in her stall and has refused to get up. She also has a small amount of white discharge around her vulva and continually pushes her head against the wall of her stall. She has bagged up a little. Her ligaments have sunken but...
My pregnant alpine doe is 101 days into her pregnancy as of the 8th of February. Her vulva has been getting looser lately and she has been getting fat(ter) also. So anyway, I looked under her tail today and noticed some discharge in and around her vulva.

Often when I am talking to non-chicken people about my chickens they will always ask, "Do you have a rooster"? When I say no they usually looked shocked and then ask suspiciously,"If their is no rooster how do your hens lay eggs"
How many times have you been asked this question? Cast your...
Planning on being a Livestock and Poultry Vet soon. Not sure if I can afford to be certified so if anybody has methods for stitching wounds, various forms of surgery, disease treatments... I would greatly appreciate information!
I just "candled" the three remaining eggs that are under my broody hen (the others have already hatched). They should hatch tomorrow. When I placed the flashlight at the ends of two of the eggs (each one individually) they remained dark but when I shined the light though the other egg the egg...
