Pros and cons, ideas......on the use of pelleted bedding versus shavings. In the past I have used sand in the brooder. Thinking about trying pellets. Any comments appreciated.

How long before you help a pipped egg?(It's been 12 hours for 1 of the eggs). Also, 1st hatched chick pecking at newbie, let them figure it out or separate?

Second one hatched today and first one is pecking it. Should I separate or let it run its course?

Thanks. The other 3 eggs aren't due until tomorrow. This one was a day early. Probably lonely. Pecking at bits of food. I dipped my finger in water to make sure it got some water. Just anxious until other 3 hatch I guess. It gets up and peeps, then falls asleep again. Patience is not my virtue. LOL!
