Chickens won't go in coop at night!!!

I had that same issue. I'd come home after dark to find them all huddle together in a corner of the coop. I would have to pick each one up and put them inside the coop. I grabbed an LED flashlight and left it on all night. Next night, repeat the first night to a "T". I purchased a light from...

    No Crow Rooster Collar Works!

I live in your typical housing development with your neighbors basically in your backyard. I bought chicks back in February, eight to be exact. We named one of our black Australorps, "Olivia". Turns out "Olivia" is really "Oliver". Not to be confused with Caitlyn Jenner, our hen was really a...

    Uh-oh! I may have a rooster

It's not the green color that concerns me. It's the development of the comb way before the others, the sharpness of the tail feathers and of course, the crowIng like sound we are hearing in the mornings.

    Uh-oh! I may have a rooster

From what I know of black Australorps, the green sheen is what makes them very attractive. The hens all have the black and the green especially shows when the sun hits the feathers.

    Uh-oh! I may have a rooster

Oh yes it is mine. I have the only chickens in this neighborhood. I'm hoping, hoping that she isn't a he. The hope is starting to fade though. So it has been a really good chicken.

    Uh-oh! I may have a rooster

I've got 8 chicks total. One of the black Australorps developed "her" comb while still in the brooder. They are now almost 3 months old. In the mornings, I am beginning to hear what sounds like a rooster crowing. I haven't seen "her" actually crow. Although, the other girls still do not have...

Baby girls get a taste of FRREEEDDOOOOMMMM! (Don't forget to drag the "R" when saying freedom...;)

Today my girls got a chance to walk around. It was almost sunset. Sure enough, as light faded, they began getting vocal, I walked towards them, just kinda headed them to the door of the coop, they did the rest.

Update: Coop is complete! Water system is functional.

That would be a negative, Ghost Rider. They went to town as soon as the water flowed. On the inside of the coop, I tilted the nipples just a bit.

Update: Coop is complete! Water system is functional.

After a mishap in choosing the wrong size hole saw, I purchased a new 5 gallon bucket to start all over. I used 1 1/4" PVC along with water nipples. Bada-bing! Chickens now have clean water inside and outside of the coop. Girls are almost 7 weeks old. I included a few pictures of them as well.

Made in China?? I think not!

At the beginning of my venture into backyard chickens, because of the time factor, I was considering purchasing a pre-fabbed coop thingy. I asked a question about it in the forum, as well as, doing research online. Pros and cons of both. After many weeks, about 4 weeks total, this morning I...

    I need HELP

I'm also new and building my own coop. I resesrched here, looked at and got ideas from pre-fab coops and watched YouTube. There I found some great coop ideas, feeders, waterers, etc. You can Google tons of ideas. I'm going with a gravity fed feeder & waterer using a five gallon bucket for each...

To add or to not add LED red string lights to the coop

I'm in the final stages of the building of the coop. I live in Texas. Not concerned with my girls getting enough light or being too cold in the "winter". Should I include some LED lighting, red string lights, to have come on at night? I've read that I should because they don't see well in the...

My Girls at 3 Weeks Old Today - 26 Feb

I was at the local feed store today picking up food for the ladies. I checked out the chicks that they had arrive today. I can't believe how tiny my girls were just three weeks ago. I feel good that they are all in good health. And, when I get the bag of mealworms, fughettaboutit. As soon as...

My Buffs are scaredy cats and do not want to be touched

Thanks! Yeah, the Australorps and the Barred Rocks, they're very curious and friendly. I can rub their breasts when they get close, they peck at my hand, come when I tap on the floor of the brooder. But, those Buffs, they're gonna take some work. No worries. As for treats, I hung a baby carrot...

My Buffs are scaredy cats and do not want to be touched

Ok. My chicks are almost a week old. My Australorps and Barred Rocks are curious little things. I just tap on the floor of the brooder, and they literally come running. I can pick them up, no problem. However, the Buff Orpingtons will scurry to the far side of the brooder not wanting any human...

I am now officially Backyard Chicken!

Just picked up my first baby chicks from the local feed supply store. This is my first venture into raising chickens, (3) Black Australorps, (3) Buff Orpingtons, & (2) Barred Rock. Feeding them a Non-GMO, organic chick feed, just a tad of water in the plate, a heat lamp and they seem to be...

    Vaccinating Baby Chicks

Thanks. I appreciate your input. I guess for myself, I try to avoid big pharma when it comes to my health. Maybe I should use the same approach with my chickens.
