jimmywalt,
I'm glad you could get into rabbits. I have bunnies too! I currently have 4 does, 1 buck and 24 kits. They are so much fun to raise. And yummy too ;)
Yes, I've considered having less light now, but she is only 7 months old. She's only been laying for a short time. She is a Rainbow. She is a nervous little thing, acts like a road runner, lol!
I have one hen that suddenly quit laying. I know it's her because she's the only one that lays white eggs. At first I thought she was laying them outside the coop, so I kept them in the coop/run for a week and still no white eggs. All the others are laying fine. She seems happy and healthy.
Any...
I'm hoping to be able to free range my flock, at least when I'm home. We have a lot of coyotes in the area that are very brave and come right into the yard. I have to keep a close eye on my little dogs (who like to "free range") =)
I agree, all pullets. My buff orp roo is just a week younger and already has a large red comb and wattles. Not crowing yet but my barred rock roo has been for 2 weeks now.
Thanks Donrae, I really want it to be a hen! My Buff Orp roo from the first batch will try to peck at me...he will probably become potpie since the other (crowing) roo is super friendly. He's a barred rock.

I bought 1 golden comet pullet and 1 gold laced Wyandotte last week (chicks are 1 week and 4 days) the little Wyandotte I'm pretty sure is a pullet but I am questioning the comet. It's very pale yellow with streaks of bright yellow and the comb is starting to develop where the other chicks...
I currently have 6 chickens and my feeder has 2 openings. I can still add another and I may eventually because I have 2 more week old chicks I will be adding to the flock when they get big enough. They all take turns pretty well. My waterer has 3 nipples and they all seem to use the one that is...
Abby, I'm in Missouri too. Nevada is a town in SW Missouri. Anyway, I think the brown one is an easter egger too. two of my pullets turned out to be roos so I just HAD to get two more pullets this weekend to make up for them. I can see how chickens are addictive! I'm excited for them to start...
I bought 2 rainbows from Orscheln on March 6th as well. One is brown, looks like a hawk, and one is black and looks similar to a crow. both very pretty and friendly. I'm curious to see what kind of eggs they produce. Abby, did you get yours in Nevada by chance? =)
I also have a solid lid on mine. The feed bucket has a screw on lid and the water has one that just snaps on. I have a air intake hole drilled into the side near the top to let in air when water is dispensed but no dirt can get into that. I will just clean any mold/yuckies out when I refill the...
I just finished up my bucket waterer with the horizontal nipples (3) and a 2 hole bucket feeder. The chicks (7weeks old) seem to do very well with it. It's nice not having to fill their food/water every day and everything is clean!
I bought a batch of red wiggler (composting) worms so that eventually I will have reproducing treats! The chicks (about 7 wks) seem to like regular earthworms that they find better than the red wigglers, which are smaller. Has anyone had any experience with red wigglers? The worms are easy to...
I've been keeping my eye on my 5 wk old barred rock suspecting she is a he. Then he crowed this morning and now I know for sure! So funny, it was more like a croak! I've also got a buff orpington that is a cockerel but no crowing from him yet. (same age).
I am new to BYC so I'm not sure I'm in the right place. I am currently researching chickens/rabbits because I am planning to raise them. I've found a thread for horizontal chicken nipples to make the automatic waterers but my question is has anyone here had any luck using them for rabbits? I...
