    Surprisingwomans Chicken Coop Tractor

My husband and I had talked about getting chickens several times but never made the move to do anything about it. We had told my son-in-law about how to make a potato box and the only place that had seed potatoes was the local IFA. Wednesday, May 27 he was there buying seed potatoes with my...

Do chickens get urine scald from poopy bums?

There's actually a post a couple away from mine about worms and poopy bums. I know (?) Molly doesn't have worms but someone on there did say they get "fecal scald" so I might have searched with the wrong terms. Being a rabbit person I was familiar with urine scald as the term. I will bring...

Do chickens get urine scald from poopy bums?

I have a 2 year old EE who has not been the healthiest chicken from the word go. She has always had a weak calcium gene and has laid odd eggs for forever. Soft shell, no shell, egg within an egg (three in a row), it has never been good for her. If we get an actual egg that is almost decent...

    Goats in public

There is a woman here who always takes her goat to the bus stop to pick up the kids. No lead or harness. The goat behaves better than most kids. (get it, goat... kid....) I don't have any personal experience. It would be interesting but I wouldn't take one of my cats because of some of the...

    Inexpensive source for Hardware Cloth

It seems as though there is a big difference between the cheapest 19 gauge at HD and the 27 gauge at this place. Can someone explain the difference and if it's worth the "savings?"

    Nest box... 1 @ 24x18x18 or 2 @ 12x18x12

Which would be better for 5 or 6 hens? One big trough type or two smaller that are stacked on top of each other so they have a "high" and a "low" option? They are used to having the nesting box at floor level because their tractor is small and we need to stay small for now. I am building a...

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

Well, we worked the bees on Monday and I wore my veil but this time I tucked it into my shirt. I also sucked on cinnamon disc candies (the sacrifices we make! ) and things were fine. If I am breathing out some banana smelling CO2 the cinnamon seemed to mask it because the bees were mellow...

New deadly mutated equine virus!! Please Read

This is such a hot news topic here in Utah. From what they are saying just keep your horses home and practice good hygiene like we do with our feathered babies. It isn't spread through mosquitoes like West Nile. So sorry for the worry you horse owners are going through. Be safe.

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

I had bees last year that died over the winter because I put up a wind surround (I live in the mouth of a canyon) that kept them in the shade too much. I loved them to death. I worked them allll the time with no protection. If I was really going to be pulling a lot of frames or doing major...

    Rabbit housing and feed

Rabbits don't HAVE to be in the house but there are predators out there. Imagine how well you would sleep with raccoons and other things trying to get your cage open so they could eat you. The people also pay a lot more attention when you are living in their house and they can see them...

    I don't want my dog anymore . . .

I grew up with SP's. We got a purebred mutt named Henri LeBlanc. He needed a wife and after much shopping my mother found a lovely ex=show dog named Michelle. She had never had a haircut and the hair on her ears, topknot and shoulders was sooo long and sooo soft it should have been illegal...
