Hello BYC ers!!
So we have had an incredibly fulfilling, amusing, and ever so tasty chicken raising experience so far- our flock of seven ladies ( 2 Australorps, 3 Buff Orps, 2 Blue Orps) will be 1 yr old in April. They began laying prodigiously late last fall, and we have had really no problems...
Ah!!!!! I believe it!! Cant wait to see pics! Ours isn't much to look at at present- just framed out and faced... but oh my do I have big plans for that baby. A green roof, landscaping of sorts, gravity feeder and waterer...
I am hoping we can have ours done in about 2 weeks- those babies are...
Totally understand!! We are in the throes of building our coop as well, thats an adventure in itself!! I'll let you know if he finds a home in the meantime, but do keep us in mind if still interested. Gives me more time to hang out with the little guy. :)
Thanks!
Jennie
Ahh!!! That would be SO wonderful!! Believe me, I know the husband/chicken negotiation game...thats how 4 turned into 8.. :) I haven't had any leads otherwise, so just keep me in the loop and I'd be thrilled to bring him your way!
I make a pretty mean pie- tell your husband this roo comes...
Hi There!
My husband and I are about 6 weeks into our first chicken raising adventure, and how wonderful and rewarding it has been!! Sadly, what were supposed to be all female chicks, has proven to have an odd man out as it were. :( Our beautiful Buff Orpington, Susquehanna, turns out, is a...
Hi there. We are about 5 weeks into our chicken adventure, and loving it, but I have growing suspicion that the biggest of our ladies, well, isn't one. Susquehanna has always been the biggest chick, by far the quickest to feather, and appears to be the ruler of the roost for the most part- but...
Six new babies home from the hatchery (4 buff Orps and 2 blues) and I'll tell ya, everyones pooped. :) Growin up takes a lot of work! Everybody is all splayed out, lined up like dominos. (At least after the first 2 we brought home last week, I know not to have an utter meltdown when they stretch...
Yep, same here on house age. It's beautiful, but over a century old. As such we chose what we know to be the warmest room for the brooder, but have been adjusting the lamp regularly to try to maintain temps. So far so good. It's a bit stressful, but this old house, and the land that came with...
Thank you, thank you both! Gonna add just a touch of sugar to their water and stand guard like a new mom does. ;) can't wait to share their progress!! ( and I'm sure, more questions!)
Hi friends...
So that day has FINALLY come, we brought home 2 of what will, in a week, be a flock of 8. Today, the Australorp chicks... Despite obsessively reading every single post I could manage- I am such a nervous momma. My brooder temp is perfect ( I have been tweaking for days), dipped...
Thank you thank you!! I literally dream of them, and have gone to bed watching more than one "chicken sounds" video on youtube... if there was ever a safe place to admit this, I assume this is it. :)
Hello All!!
Just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to the gathering, as well as the chicken raising experience. My husband and I recently purchased a beautiful home on a double lot here in Cleveland, Ohio, and my chicken dreams are ever that much closer to becoming a reality!! At present I...
