My roosters crow constantly. I really have too many, especially too many serama roosters, but they coexist, so I keep them anyway. They are so cute, I find it hard to rehome them.
I’m not sure what the recommended area is for pigeons. Maybe @Qwerty3159 might know? Mine seem to tolerate what I...
I made a couple videos, thought they might give you some ideas. Please excuse the mess, it’s just becoming spring enough for me to start some spring cleaning.
One of the videos shows a mom feeding some squeakers, they are amazing to me.
The whole section that the pigeons and d’uccle are in was...
There is a picket fence around the perimeter with chicken wire stapled to it, then netting above the fence, up to the top, and over the top.
Can’t find good pics at the moment, I can get a video tomorrow
But this is from my camera inside the pen.
The pigeons are on the far right side, and 2 more...
I would agree it may have gotten too warm. It looks like your heat lamp is over one side, but they still need room to get away from the heat. Do you have a small thermometer you can put down in the box? The solid sides can tend to keep more heat in than it appears. You may need to raise the...
I have a trap door that I can open to let my pigeons out into the net-covered duck pen sometimes. It was pretty simple to add. It folds upward and just has a simple eye hook on top to keep it closed.
I agree, pigeon information is much less readily available, compared to chickens and other fowl. There are literally hundreds of species of pigeons! I would suggest finding a breed that would fit in with your setup.
Most pigeon breeds fly well, so any loose areas in your netting would need to...
I’m not great with the possible injury, but I did want to say that a short drop wouldn’t normally hurt a duckling. It is possible, but don’t give up hope yet.
I would consider some water therapy, put the duckling in a shallow pan of water, a few inches deep, enough to let him float off the leg...
I’ve had a few die, and that always seemed the be the first sign, sitting back on their hocks. Then I’d find them laying on their sides sometimes. Then they’d be fine! Then I’d find them dead. My girls seem super healthy, I kinda assumed the males were fighting each other. I honestly don’t know...
I’ve never had a d’uccle boy that has been aggressive to humans. They can be real jerks to other roosters, and sometimes they seem more aggressive mating the girls, compared to other breeds, but none of mine have ever been human aggressive.
So I set some duck eggs a couple weeks ago, and then found a golden neck egg that same day. They had stopped laying, seems like it’s been months, though probably just a few weeks. Since call duck eggs take 5 days longer than chicken eggs to incubate, I decided to add any golden neck eggs they...
I had a group of ducks that were named from characters in a tv show. Then I had a group that was named after drinks (Margarita, Kahlua, Bacardi, etc lol). Use whatever strikes your fancy. I found the bird “tells” me their name in some way.
I quit naming birds when I kept losing my favorites...
I only have Call ducks now (well, chickens and pigeons too, but I think we’re just talking ducks?)
I have 39 call ducks at the moment (16 eggs currently incubating) and they all run together. No breeding pens, etc, so about any color/combo is possible… except white. I lost my last white call...
