Our yard is divided in 2, one yard for the dog and one for chickens. The chickens know that there is a do in the other yard. One day I opened the gate for them to go into the dog's yard and the chickens refused to go in. Then my DH walked out and put the dog in the car while the chickens...
Yes, this is possibly the issue. There were some cockerels that were harassing the ducks and I processed them, but there are a couple left and I saw one mount her the other day. Is it possible that she's depressed? I have wondered about this.
Maybe that is why she stays in the pool all...
My 5 month old Pekin duck seems ill. She(he?) has been sitting in the kiddie pools for days, instead of being out and about with the other ducks and geese. I have not seen her eat much at all, but she is drinking a lot. She seems to be shivering some. The last 2 evening I had to take her to...
some of mine growl at me even when not broody. if she stays on the nest overnight for 2 or 3 nights then you have a broody. i had a 20-week old go broody and she turned out to be a great momma.
In sort, we cut the head off an extra rooster one day last fall and were plucking it. the other chickens gathered around and were eager to taste. I never had a moral qualm about it after that. It's not FUN to kill them, but they would happily eat each other or me if they got the chance...
the eggs will be fine. i check under my broody every day at least twice, just suck it up and stick your hand under there or put on a glove if you think she will draw blood.
My chickens free range and eat BOSS and we have no problems with the eggs. Every now and then one of the eggs will be runnier or the yoke will break, but that is not the norm. I don't know what is going on with your girls, maybe they are adjusting to the change in diet in some way. In my...
i've noticed with moms and chicks that one day the moms are cuddly and sweet and the next day the chicks are like strangers to them. it's funny and sort of sad. so that is normal. if i were you i'd get a new rooster.
my 3 year old son is mighty particular too. he'll pass on eggs if they aren't ours. he will eat other "yard eggs" but his fav are ours. i don't blame him, i've never tasted an egg better than mine.
cats won't be a problem with chickens that old. I do have one black cat who likes to run through the flock and make them all squawk, but he just does it for fun. My other cat is afraid of the chickens. They won't roam too far at first, and since they will start or are laying they generally...
