Yep, the little one just sprouted a big red comb and wattles :/ I know, I'm not holding out really high hopes for the little runt. But we'll see....At least the others are growing like weeds and looking super healthy. Good luck with your hatch!

Yay thanks you guys!! I'm going to be pretty stoked to wind up with 4 out of 5 being pullets!! The breeder that I got them from did try to pick out chicks that he thought looked like girls for me, but I was pretty skeptical since they were only a week old when I got them :) Turns out he did...

    Icelandic Chickens

Okay, I'm starting to get hopeful that I may only have one cockerel in my group of 5-week-old chicks....but I would love a second opinion! This has to be a pullet, right?? I mean come on! Look how pretty! Here's her next to my blatantly male chick, and maybe another pullet?? Here's a...

My sickly chick is still doing okay, it's just much smaller and less feathered than its siblings. We'll see how it fares, its eating/drinking normally and fairly active. The last time I had a runty chick like this, it wound up dying :( But I've got my fingers crossed!!

Okay, I know these pics aren't great. I'll try to get better ones with my camera and not my phone :/ These little ones are about 4 weeks old, and I'm anxious to determine their sexes! I have one super obvious cockerel, with an enormous comb, but I'm unsure on the rest. The one in the...

    Icelandic Chickens

So, I'm new to Icelandics and there are lots of things I don't know about them yet! Can they have a pea comb or straight comb? I'm assuming so since Audun seems to have a pea comb...I have some 3-week-old chicks and 4 are developing straight combs, but one seems to have a pea comb. Was thinking...

    Icelandic Chickens

Thanks so much! I'll be keeping a close eye on my little ones as they mature :) If I'm iffy on gender I might post some more pics when they're older! I got these chicks from Just Fowling Around farm, in north central Washington state. I think he said they're from the Buel line, or maybe Vala...

    Hello from Spokane, WA!

Hi! I have had chickens for only two years now, and have learned a ton as a new chicken mom :) I currently have a variety of breeds, mostly from good local breeders and a few I've hatched here at home. I currently have 14 adult hens, 2 juvenile pullets, 8 new chicks, and 2 lovely roosters! As...

    Icelandic Chickens

New member here!! Just acquired my first Icelandic chicks, and I'm super excited about them :) They are just over a week old in these pics, and yes there are 2 older Salmon Faverolles in the mix as well. Fingers crossed for pullets! If they were crested, would I already see signs of that? Just...
