EDIT: Looks like B Vitamin Deficiency. Possible Chicks with Maerks or Avian Encephalomyelitis

Just wanted to update that after about a week with vitamin supplementation (Poly-vi-sol without Iron) the chicks are COMPLETELY recovered! The transformation was amazing! Thank you guys for pointing me in that direction!!

EDIT: Looks like B Vitamin Deficiency. Possible Chicks with Maerks or Avian Encephalomyelitis

Thank you for the links and video. I am thinking that it most closely resembles a vitamin B2 deficiency. I have been giving the liquid baby vitamins (one drop 3xs per day) and have made each of the three affected birds leg hobbles out of vet wrap. Improvement is very slight, but I will keep on...

EDIT: Looks like B Vitamin Deficiency. Possible Chicks with Maerks or Avian Encephalomyelitis

Hi all- I have 6 leghorn chicks purchased from local feed store. They are between 2 and 3 weeks of age, but closer to 3 weeks, I think. They had been doing well in their brooder until a couple of days ago. Then I noticed 1 had what looked like slightly splayed legs. I removed it from the...

What was your free chick from Murray McMurray?

Ordered 25 Ameraucana / Easter Egger chicks from McMurray. Post office called me at 6:15 this morning to come pick them up. All happy & healthy!! My mystery chick is a white crested black polish. I am wondering if they sent two mystery chicks though. I have 27 chicks total, but I should have...

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

Beautiful ducks! I love the black one in the lower right corner!! Seems up here in our part of Washington, people mostly have chocolate Muscovies. It's rare to see the black ones.

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

Thanks to both of you for your replies! I brought some bread out this morning and listened to the sounds each duck made. All except for the one in the second picture made a range of vocalizations. The one in the second picture was pretty much silent. So, I'm guessing, based on GoingQuackers...

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

I wonder if I would be seeing a lot of fighting by now if they're all male.... They seem to get along pretty well.

    Cream Legbars

Hello everyone! I am new to BYC but wanted to say hello. I hatched out 13 CL eggs this past fall and got 7 roos and 6 hens. The eggs were from CLs that were from the Greenfire Farms 2010 import. The chicks are now 16 weeks old. I think I would like to keep 3 roosters (to be with the CL hens but...

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

Can the males make the cooing chirpy sound at all? I think they all make the chirpy coo sound, especially when they stand around in a circle bobbing their heads at each other and having their duck discussions. I know at least one makes the huffing sound at our silkie rooster when the rooster...

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

I have heard both sound from them. The chirp / coo is common for them. The huffing sound is less often. But, I'm not sure if they all make one or both sounds. Will have to observe them more closely to see who makes which sounds. Are either sound particular to either gender?

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

My son also said I should mention that we have caught one of them hanging out in one of the nesting boxes on the floor of the chicken house a couple of times now. However, no eggs, so I'm not sure that indicates anything.

    Muscovy keepers share your pics!

These are my guys (or girls. - not sure which they are). The ducks in the first and last pics are about 10 months. The middle 3 are 13 months. They are really a hoot to have around! Great foragers, funny, neat to watch. My only complaint is all of the poop on the roof from them roosting...

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

Well, thank you for the reply. They are all relatively the same size, so no help there. With my luck, they're all drakes. Are there any behavioral clues I can look for to help determine their sex? They roost on the roof and do not allow us to pick them up. But I have noticed a couple of things...

    Sex of my Muscovy ducks?

Hi everyone- I'm a first time poster, long term lurker. Was hoping someone could take a look at my Muscovy ducks and see if they can determine their genders. Three of them are 13 months old, and two are 10 months old. 10 Months Old 13 Months Old 13 Months Old 13 Months Old 10 Months...
