you know it is your responsibility to provide a safe habitat for your chickens. If something is sneaking in and getting them then that means you have left a way in for the predator. So please predator proof there habitat.
I've been getting 1 egg a day now for the past 10 days. The problem is I have 10 hens (RIR's) but I'm only getting 1 egg a day. The other problem is the eggs are really small. How long before the eggs will get bigger? And when should I start getting more then 1 egg per day? Thanks in advance for...
I've heard other hen owners talking about there hens singing the egg laying song. I thought they were just joking. But about 3 or 4 days before I got my first egg ( which was yesterday) I noticed they were sounding different. They kept cluking a low sounding little tune to themselves. I guess...
We got our first egg today. We have 11 RIR's and they are 144 days old today and we got our first egg. The egg was a little small but we got our first one. Its a cute little light brown egg and just as clean as can be.
It has come to my attention that my 3 month old flock of 11 RIR's are not just drinking there water but they are also splashing them selves with it. So my question is should I supply some type of watering tub for them to play in? I'm a rookie so advice is needed.
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that there hens don't eat at night? I have feed and water available for my hens in there hen house and in there outside run. I've noticed that once they come in for the night they don't eat. They come in at night and sleep. The next morning they go out at...
My chicks are 28 days old today. They love Alfalfa hay. We have alfalfa hay for the horses so I gave some fine pieces to the chicks and the loved it. They also like cabbage. But so far they don't like tomatoes, carrots or cooked corn.
I try to handle them as much as possible so they can get use to me but now at 3 weeks they are still afraid of me. Everytime I get near there pen they run from me. What should I do?
I have some questions
1. Once the chicks are big enough to go in there hen house and yard, do I leave a light on at night in the hen house? or do they prefer the dark?
2. If I put a automatic door opener on the hen house how do they know when to go in before they get locked out at dust?
3...
well my chicks hatched on the 1st and they are shipping them to me on the 4th. That means they will arrive here on the 6th. So once again I ask how will they survive?
