Neck wound from mystery predator overnight - how serious?

Hello everyone! Hope you had a wonderful holiday! Thank you again for all your advice! We ended up beginning little Lemon with us, we couldn't figure out any other way to keep her wound clean... she became quite the escape artist from her bandages, so I caved to only applying ointment 2x a...

Neck wound from mystery predator overnight - how serious?

Thanks for the article! I have been doing my best to keep the ointment on and cover it to keep it moist, but she's growing very impatient with me and last night she removed her bandages twice! I tried using a towel to blanket the tape, but she got smart and started dipping it in the water...

Neck wound from mystery predator overnight - how serious?

Good day! Thank you again for your feedback, I appreciate everyone's concern and help! Our little duck is doing quite well today, she's had a bath and been re-bandaged, much to her dismay. The wound looks good today in my opinion, and now I'm wondering if the bottom part tnatconcerned me...

Neck wound from mystery predator overnight - how serious?

Isaac, thank you! Ok we'll dab some on then! I had it covered with gauze before and kind of wrapped around her wing as she's not flapping them much. Does that sound good, or being that it's night and she hasn't been picking at it, could we leave it uncovered? Also, Is it ok/good to let her...

Neck wound from mystery predator overnight - how serious?

Thank you so much! Yes, finding it very hard to get a good shot! Unfortunately I drove to our nearest TS today for the vetericyn 😣 as I only had the ophthalmic gel on hand... I didn't see any type of ointments other than a lanolin one for chicken pecking and raw skin... I do have pure lanolin...

Neck wound from mystery predator overnight - how serious?

We awoke this morning to find one of our ducks in the pen with a gash on her neck. The pen is lined with electric fence and even hardware cloth along the bottom, except at the door, where we found feathers outside... It looks as though her neck skin has been torn apart, she wasn't bleeding too...

We awoke this morning to find on of our ducks in the pen with her neck injured, similar to the pictures posted. The pen is lined with electric fence and even hardware cloth along the bottom, except at the...

Very swollen eye and sudden death

This may sound silly, but how am I supposed to look inside her mouth? Is the permethrin a chemical dust/spray? We try to stay as all natural as possible, although if it means saving my flock and it's safe I would make exceptions. I was just reading an old post where someone used (warmed)...

Very swollen eye and sudden death

Well unfortunately yesterday was a 'holiday' so there was no post, which means I won't be getting that medication until tomorrow . We applied the vetericyn gel to her eyes last night and this morning it looked to be covered with yellowish scabbed skin. I applied more this morning and tonight...

Very swollen eye and sudden death

Hello again! Today we brought her into the warm garage and had a nice close look. There is absolutely no oozing of any sort. The eye is warm to the touch and hard. Her actual eye is below the swelling toward the cheek. We felt around the eye and there is no hard cheesy substance either...

Very swollen eye and sudden death

There was some debris in her eye when we flushed it, it looked like scabbed skin and it rinsed away, another time the was a pine shaving, but there has been no puss that we've seen. It doesn't ooze at all and she doesn't wheeze/sneeze/cough at all. We can hold her and flush her eye with no...

Very swollen eye and sudden death

My 7 month old hen has a swollen eye and we can't figure out why. It's been like this since the 24th (Dec) and we've been flushing it but it's showing no improvement. We thought maybe another chicken or the rooster had pecked her but I thought it would show signs of healing by now. Does...

    Coccidiosis? Diagnosis and Treatment questions...

Hi everyone! Apologies, I already posted this on an open thread but it was an older one and I haven't gotten any replies yet. I have 4 chicks, 10-11 weeks old. They've been out in the fenced in garden by day and in a kiddie pool in the garage at night for the past month+. We just built a...

Will Corid hurt if they're not actually sick?

Hi everyone! I have 4 chicks, 10-11 weeks old. They've been out in the fenced in garden by day and in a kiddie pool in the garage at night for the past month+. We just built a small enclosure in our chicken coop and moved them in with the big girls (who have been visiting them each day thru...

    BYC Guinea hen club

Lol! The pizza delivery guy was scared of ours bc they were screaming at him when he pulled in! At least I don't have to worry about unwelcome visitors, they let me know when the wind blows lol! I had my young chickens and keets in the garden last year and after replanting my pumpkins 3 times...

    Broken toenails, swollen toes

Hi again! Sorry, the holiday weekend was crazy trying to get down to visit family and such. I wasn't able to get a new pic but the swelling seems to be going down just a little, the one toe is still really big and hard tho. 2 of the toenails are growing back and the 'wound' had completely...

    BYC Guinea hen club

I keep my guineas with my chickens, we have 3 males and 1 female and then 6 hens. We did get them last year within a few weeks of each other so they were raised together from chicks/keets. They get along fine although we let them free range. They existed fine together for some time, the...

    Broken toenails, swollen toes

Hey guineapeeps, Sorry, had a household bought of the stomach flu over here :-/ We left her feet wrapped for 2 days (both are affected) and it looks like one toe is a bit less swollen. We soaked her feet again and scrubbed them better so there was no remaining black and removed what seemed to...

    Broken toenails, swollen toes

Is it possible that she could have contacted bumble foot through the broken toe nails? I had to let the male's into the coop for the night... They're pretty calm and I don't think they'll bother her although if they roost she'll probably (try?) too. I'm willing to try the suggested 'surgery'...

    Broken toenails, swollen toes

I was assuming they are infected bc they are so swollen. Once we got them cleaned up and looked around the toenail began to bleed, but not a lot. It certainly wasn't a clean break and there was a lot of mud packed into them.
