Hens about to get the boot. Egg production WAY down. HELP!

Thanks for the replies. That makes a lot of sense. We were going to rotate out at 2 years but may look at doing an earlier rotation next time. We have several breeds Some lay much better than others for sure. We will wait it out and look at culling some and adding new in the spring.

Hens about to get the boot. Egg production WAY down. HELP!

I need some help. We have 29 hens and 1 rooster. They were all laying nicely until September. We were getting roughly 18-22 eggs a day. Our hens are now 18 months old except for 4 that are just 8 months old. In september we had some start molting. The majority of them are done molting. Their...

Roosters wreaking havoc on our hens...what do I do?

would black dye work? What exactly does the dye do? We've got the roosters apart now. I've been putting animal scents ointment on them from Young Living and it seems to be helping and I'm starting to see some regrowth on a few hens.

Roosters wreaking havoc on our hens...what do I do?

I don't really have a spot per se. I have 2 giant dog crates that I could put in our barn or garage for a few days. Today we r letting the roosters roam out of the coop and run. My concern is that the other hens may now be picking on those hens like others have mentioned. These roosters can't be...

Roosters wreaking havoc on our hens...what do I do?

Our poor Australorp is looking even worse. :( I'm waiting to hear back from someone who wants the roosters. Should I remove the hens that are badly plucked until they can recover a bit? We feed them a mixed feed that we get from a granary near by. It is crushed. They also get fruit/veggies...

Roosters wreaking havoc on our hens...what do I do?

See what I mean? It isn't all of them. Just certain ones that are connected to those 2 roosters. The black australorp is hard to really see but she is one of the worst and has been targeted many times. He got her head, top of wings and back. The rest of them it is mostly isolated to the back.

Roosters wreaking havoc on our hens...what do I do?

Thanks for your feedback. I do't think they are molting. They are thick all over except where the rooster is attacking them and we've caught him singling out the hens and pulling feathers out. After talking to some other chicken owners I think it's best to get rid of those 2 roosters. We are...

    Hello from Ohio!

My name is Codie-lyn. My husband and I, along with our 2 boys have a backyard flock of 35 chickens in Ohio. We have only had them for about 10 months. We are loving every minute of it and my boys have started their own little business selling eggs. I look forward to learning from you all!

Roosters wreaking havoc on our hens...what do I do?

We have 35 chickens, 4 roosters and 31 hens. They are all about 9-10 months old. This winter we noticed our hens missing lots of feathers. Right now we have 2 roosters that are torturing their poor hens. I want to get rid of those 2 roosters but DH is unsure. Most of their back feathers are gone...
