    Is this a roo?

He was a silver penciled cochin. I gave him back to the lady I bought him from and she corrected me. Sweet boy was trying to crow already at nearly 5 weeks. Funniest sound ever.

    Is this a roo?

I'm told my little chick here is a frizzled blue cochin. It is just over a month old. It already has little red wattles and a single red comb :-( I think I know the answer but I just wanted verification.

Chickens won't eat anything but crumbles

My nail polish is chipped black. It looks terrible but the chicks love it. One just got away and I crouched down and wiggled my fingers and he came running from about 15 feet away and tried to peck me to death. If I put anything in their food they scratch it out or peck around it. When my polish...

Chickens won't eat anything but crumbles

Thank you very much for your reply. I give them chopped fruit and veggie scraps (sometimes the dry pulp from our juicer) nearly every day and they've yet to even take a peck. Although they will peck my nail polish.

Chickens won't eat anything but crumbles

It's not oyster shells, it's chick grit, my apologies. As for the "free ranging" they have a completely enclosed run at the moment with open access to the grass and bugs and such and they don't go after anything. They just wait to be fed. They don't scratch in the dirt, they will go after a...

Chickens won't eat anything but crumbles

I have been giving my chicks Dumor crumbles and now, at a month old they won't eat anything but those crumbles and oyster shells. Any fresh food is ignored, they don't pick at grass or bugs when outside. Have I ruined my chicks for free ranging? I offered raspberries and collard greens today and...

    Cats and Dogs

My dog protects our bunny when she's outside. He's in training to be an assistance/companion dog for my son. I'm worried about my cat. She has zero prey drive for anything but lizards. She meows and all the chicks run to her. Maybe she thinks they are her babies? Or the chicks think she is their...

    Cats and Dogs

I have a cat and a dog that are extremely interested in my indoor chicks and my chicks are interested in them. We just had to change cages because my chicks were escaping to find my critters. More than 5 times a day the chicks would flap out of the box and find one or both animals and play with...

    Housing Baby Chicks

Additionally I have a heat lamp on top which puts the highest level at 90 degrees, and each level down 3-5 degrees cooler. The floor with bedding sits between 75-78 depending which side they are on. None of them are hiding or huddling anywhere.

    Housing Baby Chicks

So I have 6 chicks, between 12-15 days old of various breeds. Mostly larger (RIRs, leghorns and such). I had them in a 2x2 box until today. I moved them into a multilevel, wire, small mammal cage and modified it a bit for the chicks. They will remain inside my house until the Central Florida...

I found a California White Leghorn and a Buff Orpington that were born on the same day as my babies so that's what we have now!!

I was hoping to have 6 chickens total but the farm we are going to isn't open until Sunday! So they'll be 2 weeks when we introduce 2 more chickens. Will it be okay in a week to introduce new 1-2 week old chicks to my 1.5-2 week on chicks?

Hello Everyone! I am from the East Orlando area and just got my first chickens yesterday! I purchased a blue cochin, two RIR, and an Easter Egger which my research indicates some kind of Americauna cross? She (I hope) is brown with a beard and unfeathered legs. I am so excited. They are all 5-7...
