Welcome to my BYC page!
Here we are : The hubby & I, after erecting the walls of our 4x8 coop!
This is a shot of the progress, as of 6/29/009
We are trying to make it look like a playhouse, since our yard is 3000 sq ft shy of what we'd need to be "legal" in our city.
The run...
I would.
I don't supplement calcium unless I notice the shells are a bit thin.
I save all of their shells and then toss them into a blender, and have them free feed from it when/if I notice the shells aren't as strong. When I notice spots on the eggs, I stop adding to the eggshell crumbles.
My...
I always save all my egg shells and toss them on a cookie sheet in my oven. When the sheet is full, I toss them in the blender, and then I put the dust in a little bird feeder (sort of like a little half cup you put on the inside of domestic/house bird cages... got mine at Petco for $1). They...
Good luck. I have a "mean hen" who happens to lay the biggest eggs, and is the prettiest. She was in isolation for 2 weeks, because she got sick and they were all picking on her. When she went back in it was a battle royale... blood and everything... so, we had to put her in a brooder in the...
I have 6. Their house is 4x8x8 foot tall... Their run is 6 x 8. I think it's a bit too small for them, as they have taken to pulling eachother's feathers out around their heads... I never see it happen... I am out there a lot... I guess it is probably from when we lock them up at night? They...
Hi,
I do the deep litter method with some Stall Dry sprinkled at the bottom. Our chickens are a year old now, and it's been really nice.
I clean out the coop once every 3-4 months... just toss new wood shavings in there every so often... So far, it has been no problem.
When I clean it out, I...
I have one like this, and noticed that one of the others was picking on her. I would have thought it was molting, but I was out there cleaning out the coop and changing water & just hanging out with them, and noticed one of the girls taking a bite and ripping feathers out of the other. Poor...
But, aren't fowl pox scabby & crusty?
This is really hard and there are no marks on it... just a big lump...
Not arguing, just asking, because I have been googling fowl pox, and I see black marks and crusty white marks on the birds...
I noticed yesterday, while feeding my gals some treats that one of them has a lump in her wattle. It is hard, and about the size of a pencil eraser. The other side is perfect.
Lumpy side
Normal side (not the best picture...but, you get the idea)
I've turned her upside down, and inspected the...
I have a chicken who is 7 months and JUST now started laying.. she was the runt, and sort of "special"... her combs grew slowly, and she was the one the other chickens kept away from the feed, so I had to hand feed her daily, ha... I had one that laid at 20 weeks, and a couple followed suit...
I have a broody one who has started doing this.
I read somewhere on the boards that you have to blow out the liquid part of the egg, and fill it up with mustard or hot sauce, and it should make them stop...
Let's hope it works. It is my husband's favorite chicken... I went out there this...
We went out of town for 2 nights in a row, and my girls were just fine.
I kept them in the coop. Made sure to check their water and food before I left. They were realllllly happy about getting out of the coop on the 3rd day... but 2 days overnight wasn't an issue. We hang our food & water & my...
We have been having 112 degree heat, so I am not expecting eggs until it cools down a bit.... but, none are crowing, either... and they are growing at different rates, so I am sooo confused. There are a couple that Bwak really loudly when they first get let out... but, other than that, they...
I'd fight it.
We just bought a house in Feb, and pulled out 6 juniper bushes from the front and added a front yard veggie garden, wrought iron trellis, and planted a whole bunch of sunflowers & gladiolus bulbs. They raised our taxes because of the "land improvement"... seems like they'll get ya...
So I have three questions:
1.) What first attracted you to your partner?
I didn't like him at first. We were teens. We worked together @ a fast food restaurant, and I was coming off a crappy 2.5 year relationship, so I thought I wanted to be a nun. (okay, not really, but I did say it a lot!)...

Thanks for that info, Wynette. I have a girl who has been doing this on and off for awhile now... and she seems fine... we weren't sure if she was stressed & have had the hardest time trying to look down her throat... going to grab her & some Qtips now.
