I have the premier1 netting and suspect it might have been a cause for the sudden death of one of my RIR's. Came home from work one day (coincidentally on the very first day I decided to let them range outside of the hardware cloth run and into the premier1 electric poultry netting run) and...
Does any1 here have any experience with premier1 electric poultry netting? I use the 48" high version to form a larger, outer run around my hardware cloth inner run. Can electric poultry netting cause a sudden cardiac event in a chicken? Just trying to figure this out. Yesterday...
I came home from work today and found one of my sweet Rhodeys dead inside the run. I have a small flock of 3 (now 2) RIRs and three Buff orphingtons. I examined her carefully and found no outer damage that might suggest she was in a tussle. Every1 was fine and happy this am. Can some1 guide...
Hi all,
One of my six pullets (a RIR) has just started laying. She layed one smallish egg per day for three days, then on the fourth day she layed a shell-less "membrane" egg, and now nothing for the past two days. On Sunday i heard a lot of commotion and egg song (actually, some of it...
We got our first egg today!! whoohoo! I think it was one of my RIR's as she as the most developed comb and wattle. What is the consensus on storing fresh, unwashed eggs? No refrigeration for the first couple weeks? This egg also just came off a wazine 17 worm treatment two weeks ago - I...
A .177 RWS Diana model 52 pellet gun w/3-9X40 scope; a .22 RWS Diana model 34 Panther pellet gun with w/3-9X40 scope; a short barrel Remington 870 with magazine extender (this is more for home defense than varmints); and a 30 cal m-1 carbine. I wish I never got rid of the m-1 garande or the...
One question, how the heck do you keep a presumably un-anesthesized chicken from screaming bloody murder when you go digging inside its foot? Mine complain when they are mere being picked up
I just watched a show about yellowstone grizzleys last night. Had a segment showing how they tested "bear-proof" garbage cans. After seeing that, I recommend LOTS of perimeter electric fencing, or claymore mines..... Have a rifle handy too.
My three RIR's are were all bought from Agway, presumably from the same hatch. They are now 16 weeks or so. one of the three reds has a more pronouced comb and wattle - could samantha be a sam?
Sam or Samatha?
One of my other reds for comparison:

Well, I sincerely apologize for just recently posting another link to that web article, which was quickly locked. I obviously missed all the fireworks. I did not mean to stir up trouble, but was just so shocked. Anyways, I quickly scanned the recent posts and did not see anything about this...
