I am looking for a hatchery that has:
white plymouth rocks
australorps
exchequer leghorns
dominiques
marans
welsummers
EE
Know of any that has all of those?
It looks like it from what I can tell comparing it to the pics in the sticky. Just one problem though - I don't own a rooster!! We have a drake (duck) that keeps mounting my chickens. He can't fertilize chicken eggs can he? And those red things are meat spots, correct?
Lately my whites have been more watery and today I discovered this tiny but somewhat firm red thing (in at least two eggs). It was about the size of a raspberry seed. I smashed it between my fingers and that is what the picture is.
What is that thing??
I'm thinking of the following breeds for my next flock:
Dominiques - because they are supposed to be excellent foragers, hearty, will go broody and raise chicks and they are a heritage breed
Australorp - great layers, gentle, will go broody and raise chicks,
We live in the midwest and have...
I noticed that since my hens are foraging more, my yolks are deeper orange, however, the whites are super runny now like water almost. Why is that? I do't think it's necessary related to the hens being on grass but that's the only change as of late.
Are the eggs safe to eat?
I need to order some replacement hens. I have the red sex link now. They don't seem to be all they're cracked up to be. I get about 2/3 of the hens giving an egg a day. That's not so great for first year and second year hens, right? I feed them well too and they are on grass.
So what is the...
My 2 year old leghorn died tonight. Her feathers near her vent were poopy (I was think maybe it was coccidia). Earlier today she was so lethargic and could hardly move or walk around. Then I checked on her again and she was dead. this was within 1 hour!! What can I do to protect my other...
I can't figure out what's going on! Three weeks ago my 45ish hens were giving me about 30 eggs a day. These last two weeks I have been getting less than 24 a day and today I got 17! What is going on??
30 of these hens were born in the spring so it's not an issue of molting (I wouldn't think...
For the last week, each morning when I go into the barn I find one dead hen. The heads and necks are completely gone! From what I understand, it is typical coon behavior and sounds like a mink/weasel, right?
What do you think it is and how can I stop it? It's so sad to go in and find yet...
I had a customer place a large order earlier this year. I could not get ahold of her after that. I left voicemails, emails, but she did not respond. Lo and behold she contacts me again and says life got busy and she wants to order some more chicken. Okay I'm gullible. So then this week she...
Does anyone on here sell eggs? Have you found that you meet some really odd people? I don't know if I am a looney magnet or what but I'm just annoyed with people! I'm beyond frustrated with dealing with these city slickers that think they know so much about raising chickens. I've had peope...
I just noticed this morning that 4 of my hens have liquid poo under their vents on their feathers. I'm afraid it's coccidia. They are acting fine. We have had incredible rain lately and outside it is wet! Their coop is dry and relatively clean. I just pureed one head of garlic with 1.5 cups...
Something is wrong with my almost 1 year old Golden Buff. Her comb looks like dry skin and it's dull pink not reddish like her peers. I noticed today that her feathers don't look as brightly colored as they seemed before (but I could be imagining that). Any ideas of what could be wrong? Is...
Hi y'all. If we do clip our girls wings, how high can they fly? Our nest boxes are 2-5 feet off the ground (we have them stacked). We are trying to prevent them from flying over a 4 foot high fence otherwise we wouldn't be doing this.
