I think the fecal float test is a great idea. And it will put your mind to rest about parasites at least. Make sure a trained/experienced technician reads the slide, as cocci can get overlooked at times. Good luck!
I've learned that purchasing a pre-made coop is a bad idea. I didn't get the Eglu Cube but I bought a red barn premade coop that I came to hate. I've had a lot of cosmetic issues with it as well. It actually costs less to build or have someone build you a coop if you purchase the materials and...
Thank you Pyxis and Judy! That helps. I didn't buy any supplies yet or start building so I'm taking your advice. I'm clearly new to having backyard chickens. Thanks again! :D
I also didn't order chicks yet..but there will be a total of 9. Not that it changes much of my plans.
Little one #1 looks like a golden laced polish.
Little one #2 & 3 look something like a black frizzle cochin or mottled cochin.

Hi! I'm new on BYC but have read a lot on here. Everyone is so kind and informative. I have 3 hens that will be one year old in june. An Easter egger, a Rhode island red, and a barred rock. I wish I had more but can't afford a new coop yet. I'm a full time vet tech. I love my chickens! I also...
Hello! And congrats on your flock! All but the Easter Eggers are rare breeds. I have an Easter egger. She just started laying blue eggs a week ago. She's a bit timid. Easter eggers will lay either green, blue, or pink eggs. Color will not change once the first egg is laid.
Marans lay brown eggs...
