    Roosters suffocating to death

Unfortunately, laryngotracheitis is caused by one of the Herpes viruses and there is no treatment. Antibiotics can treat secondary infections, but mortality is between 50-100%. Any survivors become carriers for the disease, where it can lie dormant until reactivated. You can immunize the rest...

    Roosters to rehome

I have 3 Plymouth Rock roosters (white) and 2 Black Jersey Giant roosters that I need to rehome. None are aggressive, very sweet birds. I simply have more roos than I need. I live in the Madison, IN area. All are free to a good, loving home

New neighbors dog killed 3 of our flock

Your neighbor has a legal obligation to maintain control of his dog at all times. He also owes you the replacement costs for the animals you lost, that is also the law. The fact that they are new to the neighborhood and make no effort to contain their animal has already shown you what life is...

Clark (Cockeral) is Suddenly Very Quiet!

Check him for sour crop or an impaction. Give fluids via syringe. If he has sour crop, you will be able to smell it once you get close to his beak. If you have a vet, I would get him there ASAP

    What breed are these hens?

They all appear to be Easter Eggers. I have two without tufts or muffs. Out of curiosity, what made you name one Pimple and the other Eddie?

    Rooster troubles

He is in with a mixed aged flock and they have plenty of room (I free range during the day on an acre). My older hens routinely knock the stuffing out of him, but he is smart enough not to pick a fight with my older roos. I have been thinking of penning him up with just my Leghorn roos and see...

    Rooster troubles

I have a 3 month old Easter Egger Rooster who is being absolutely obnoxious. He keeps trying to mount all of my hens, including those that are only 2-3 mos old as well and my Bantam Cochin hen as well. He tries to start fights with my younger roos. Any advice how to curb his behavior? My...

    Caring for injured Pekin duck

Duck is doing really well. Puncture wound to rump is completely healed, wound to chest is 3/4 filled in with scar tissue. Continuing screw worm spray, but she has been released back out into the yard with her friends with daily wound checks to monitor. I did give the Capstar as recommended.

    Caring for injured Pekin duck

My female Pekin was attacked by the neighbor's dog 2 days ago. Has a deep puncture wound to the chest, one to her rump. By the time we found her, they were infested with maggots (in less than 8 hrs). I have been irrigating 3 times daily with chlorhexadine and water, using poultry wound...
