    Help with integrating two flocks...

So I have two flocks: (1) 4 Buff Orps and 4 Leghorns, (2) an Australorp, a RIR, an Ameraucana, and a Buff Orp. They first flock is about 10 months old, the second flock about 5 months old. I've tried letting them free range in my backyard while putting them together at night, but the flocks just...

    Heat Pads for Brooders?

Oh, Im not concerned about the light at all. The thing is, where I live the walls are pretty thin, and I dont want all their chirping to annoy/keep awake other people in the house, especially during the night. I read somewhere that dark helps keep them quiet, which is why I was thinking about...

    Heat Pads for Brooders?

Hey, so I was thinking of a way to keep the baby chicks more quiet in the night while they stay indoors in the brooder, and I was thought perhaps during the night I could try to keep them warm using heat pads under their bedding to heat them rather than just having a heat lamp. I figured a heat...

Keeping Coop Dry while under heavy fog

Well, as I was closing up the coop tonight, I noticed that heavy fog rolled in, and that this heavy fog seemed to coat everything with a thin layer of dew. Im concerned that the fog may kep the coop soaked and that consequently the chicken's health will suffer. Any recommendations on keeping it dry?

Keeping Feed Dry with Fog Rolling In

So, as I was putting in the chickens tonight, I noticed that the fog finally rolled in. This fog seems extra hydrated, and left a light coating of dew on everything, including my feeder. Im not sure how long this is supposed to last, so in the meantime, how do you guys recommend I keep the feed...

Bringing chicken back to flock after trip; necessary to isolate?

Joy Joy Joy! Isolating one of them would have been such a hassle, so hooray! Also, so you guys know, a few of the kids were so enamored by the chicken that they actually convinced their parent to get them some! I'm going to be getting them some chicks for next Sunday

Bringing chicken back to flock after trip; necessary to isolate?

So then I shouldnt have to worry about any sort of odd diseases or anything my chicken may have contracted, or given the circumstances, is that not really a possibility?

Bringing chicken back to flock after trip; necessary to isolate?

So, I keep my chickens a little south of San Francisco, and I decided to bring one of my chickens to show to some children in Berkeley. It hasnt been with any other chickens, nor has it gone very far from where the coop is (its all in the Bay Area and within an hour of each other). However, it...

What Breed of Quail is this?

It does look golden, but it seems kind of odd that in a farm of nearly 20,000 quail, there just happens to be one golden quail in a sea of pharoahs. Perhaps its just me who finds that odd

Coturnix Quail Cannibalism: LARGE WOUND!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Honestly, I cant tell what it is. I was thinking of applying some neosporin to it, but with what everyone was saying about them being so hardy and all, I decided not to put some on out of fear they may inadvertently ingest some of it. As for their age, we were told that they are almost at laying...

What Breed of Quail is this?

I recently got 5 quails (1 male, 4 females) from my dad's friend (a quail farmer), and the male he gave me looks like this: As you can see, its decidedly different from the females. That being the case, I was wondering if its a different breed of coturnix quail or if its just some sort of...

Coturnix Quail Cannibalism: LARGE WOUND!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Okay, so based off what many people have said on this topic, I decided I was not going to reapply neosporin on the quail and just let them heal naturally. However, when I was checking the wound today to see if there was progress, I wasnt really sure if what I was seeing was a good sign or a bad...

Coturnix Quail Cannibalism: LARGE WOUND!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Hmmmm, perhaps I mis-recalled what the owner said. The wound seems better than yesterday, so I'm going to keep applying neosporin to the one with the open wound. Since the other two who have bare backs arent (so far as I can tell) bleeding, should I still seperate them from the rest? Right now...

Coturnix Quail Cannibalism: LARGE WOUND!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Waaah! Thank you so much! Thank goodness for late night sleepers LOL So, I just applied the neosporin to the quail with the open wound (which, during the application of the ointment, we found to be more severe than we thought) and managed to take a few pictures before THE CAMERA DIED ARGH...

Coturnix Quail Cannibalism: LARGE WOUND!!! PLEASE HELP!!!

Im going to be applying the neosporin to all the birds that have bare backs (in case there are cuts I cant see or something), and I'll be sure to take a picture of them. Also, it was a female, and of the five quail I have, one is male, though I was told by the person we bought them from (my...

Yeah, I still have yet to ask the manager directly, though Im hoping I can convince him that chickens wont be problematic (or perhaps convince him with the periodic batch of fresh eggs )
