Thanks everyone for your replies. We thought about a necropsy but we didn't want to subject her to that. I am not sure it would change how we handle anything with the remaining birds.
It appears it was Mareks. Hope for the best with our remaining chickens. They are all quite old so perhaps they have natural immunity. That is the best we can hope for.
Hi,
I am now convinced my 3.5 year old speckled Sussex has marek's disease. She had some symptoms several weeks back of liver / digestive issues, a slow crop. Now we are seeing neurological symptoms in her right side creating difficulty walking.
We have two other hens that seem fine. If this...
She last laid an egg in October / November. We don't provide any supplemental light in the winter and our girls don't give us many eggs in the winter so I really wasn't expecting any.
Thanks, her abdomen appears fine. We thought it could be some sort of reproductive thing but no signs of an issue there when we last got her to a vet. However who knows if there is a cancer inside of her.
It is cold where we are, I have her own food there but water is difficult to add because...
So you may recall me posting about issues we had with Ginger where she had some sort of crop or digestive issue. She made a great come back before Christmas and got a lot better. She was eating and drinking fine and regained a lot of energy over the past weeks. She really looked like her normal...
I have a chicken that has been doing well getting over a slow crop. She's now eating and pooping regularly and behaving regularly during the day.
When she naps during the day, she has no issues tucking her head in and being still.
At night I see here on the camera on the roost and she cannot...
thanks for all the help. She's still very much in sleepy mode but is being kept warm inside. She wakes up when we are around, makes some usual chicken noises but as soon as any activity dies down, prefers to go to sleep. Her poop is still mainly water and some of these green peppercorn sized...
so went to another more specialized vet today. Our chicken is doing about the same, low energy and not eating anything beside a little bit of yogurt. It looks like she might be running a fever as I think she gets the chills based on how her feathers move. She has energy if you engage her and...
thanks for the tips all. Anyone ever see sour crop without the smell?
Also how long after starting to administer treatment should we see an improvement?
Hi, I am seeking as much advice as possible since things aren't yet improving. Here's what happened.
+ 3 year old speckled Sussex hen. Very vibrant, bossy personality
+ Noticed her eating treats and pretty vibrant on 12/1
+ On 12/2, she was not interested in food. Wanted to drink lots of water...
Hi,
We have three chickens and one of which for the last couple months has been making eggs that are always rough on the top, with those little pimples but the eggshell in the rest of the egg is weaker than it should be.
At first we thought it was just excess calcium but the rest of the...
Thanks, you're making me feel better that isn't not that bad. If its just cosmetic we can live with that. I just feel bad, we didn't do enough then to prevent it from happening.
Hi,
We've got a Salmon Faverolle and went though some really cold weather in the north east the past couple days but it is now pretty warm (50-60 deg F today). We noticed there were some spots on the comb and we're worried she got frostbite when it was really cold and windy. The weather is...
