Im so sick of waiting. I had chickens a few years ago and forgot the frustration of waiting for their first eggs. I have 16 chickens now and only 1 is laying (started last week). They are between 18 and 24 weeks. Im sure of the ages as Ive had them since a month old. They have been...
I couldnt imagine putting up a run. They loooove the great white open. I think your right though. Getting rid of the roo does seem like it would help with my hen. Do you think if I confine my girls to the coop for a week my hen would find a place within the pecking order. I can only hope to...
The cockeral and pullets are all the same age. The girls just arent all ready for his advances so when he tries something they scream and try to get away. I need a roo for an alert and he does a good job in that aspect. Is there anything I xan try to reestablish her into the flock without...
I was thinking that too. He is scared @$!#less of me. You dont think as he "practices" he will get better. It doesnt help that some of the hens havent laid their first eggs yet and scream when he grabs them.
Do you think someone is pulling your leg? My husband did that once. Of course I didnt know much about chickens back then. We had just purchased two hens and I dont remember how long after but he calls me outside and I see a bunch of eggs scattered everywhere. Lol. I could have hit him when...
A few days ago I was about 20 minutes late opening the coop. I heard some ruckus coming from it. I walked up and look through and my cockeral is attacking my fave Barred rock. I mean blood and everything. She has a huge wound on her neck and her comb is a little messed up. I clean her up...
Its not the apples. My runs are underneath 2 apple trees and the apples fall like crazy and my birds eat every one of them seeds and all with no ill effects. Had to be from something else. Maybe sour crop and the apple fermented in her crop?
I highly doubt they will tear the netting down to kill the chicks. They should be fine. However they shouldnt be introduced to the others until they are the relatice size of them.
Sorry but I beg to differ everyone. I had a 2 month old silkie go broody. She clucked to them. Even had the huge broody droppings that she refused to drop in the cage.

One splash cockerel left, hatched in June 2011. He is paired up here. But if you want just him, I could do that. I'd need you zip to figure out a price for him.

92503 is the zip. I just need him really.
A double yolker is a fluke and is hard on the hen because its a huge egg to push out. Not healthy at all. No one breed will do it everytime.
Hatching from them is extremely difficult and results in one or both of the chicks dying. I remember a youtube video of a successful hatch. Just search...
