    FIRST EGG!! little concerned

    Congratulations on the first egg. I am sure your hens will figure out the nesting box but you may try adding a fake egg (golf ball, old white door knob, glass egg) to the nest box. This will help show the ladies where you want the eggs.

    Okay I am not very helpful but I did google chickens and lyme disease and found pretty much nothing. I found one place that was encuraging people to get chickens and Guinea fowl to eat ticks. Sorry. Hopefully someone will be more helpful.

    in my experience from my parents flock (this is my first flock of my very own) the buff orpingtons and the barred rocks and also rhode island reds are all good heat/cold tolerant and lay really well. This is just my opionion so keep looking for what works for you. Good luck finding what you want.

    Wow I still have about 12 weeks to go before I can even get hopeful. I can't wait to gather my own eggs. I don't think that the thrill ever weres off. My kids and I still love to gather grandma's eggs. Good luck getting those hens to lay!
