1st hatch - ducks. Mistakes were made. Advice appreciated

It kicked its shell off last night but the shell is still attached. After reading similar threads I left it like it was and it has gotten shorter but hasn't dried up yet. The baby is basically on his side and hasn't been able to turn over. Its very active kicking its feet and scouting around...

1st hatch - ducks. Mistakes were made. Advice appreciated

We are down to 1. It externally pipped yesterday around 3pm so its been 24 hrs. I can see its beak and its making movements with its mouth like its eating. Maybe still absorbing the yoke? The other had 2 air pockets, one each end of the egg and it internally pipped some time in the night into...

1st hatch - ducks. Mistakes were made. Advice appreciated

I did the float test. 2 good, 3 sank to bottom. I put the 2 back in. The others, one looked fully formed but the inside membrane was rubbery and tough. The other 2 were varying stages of development. I guess we'll have to see if the 2 alive make it. Thanks for the help.

1st hatch - ducks. Mistakes were made. Advice appreciated

Pekin Ducks At day 23 movement was seen and air pockets looked right At day 25 could not tell if there was movement, took them off turner and increased humidity. Should I be able to see movement at this point? Air pockets still seem to be correct and veins are present. Also a concern that...

    North Carolina

Hi I'm in Rockingham county NC and I'm looking for somewhere local or semi local to purchase chicks and/or started pullets or laying hens. I would like to find white crested black polish bantam and Orpingtons but I'm open to anything. Anybody sell chickens or know of a hatchery around here? Thanks

    Crazy chickens

My so far they have been very polite and patient. I wouldn't know what to think if I walked in the coop with all that going on.

    Crazy chickens

I wish I could post a video. Shorty after I took that pic she started the egg song, like "she laid an egg, she laid an egg, my turn" Never a dull moment in chicken keeping.

    Crazy chickens

Four nesting boxes between 6 laying hens and we still have to wait in line. Of course they aren't even laying in the boxes anyway. They lay in the corner under the boxes. Love my crazy chickens.

Teenage Easter egger with neck injury

So I found another wound under her wing and it was full of maggots. Hibcliens, peroxide, washed it, then Blu kote. I think I have all the maggots out. I don't know how this girl was doing as well as she was but I guess we will see if she can heal. We thought about culling her but she has so...

Teenage Easter egger with neck injury

Just talked to my husband and he said she is doing good. She was up and eating before the other chicks this morn and was moving about, eating and drinking thru the day. I leave for work before 6am and don't get home till after 6pm so he's been keeping a check on her today for me. Can't wait to...

Teenage Easter egger with neck injury

Thank you. I'm going to wash her wound tonight and apply some wound spray. Also I think I probably better bring her into the house for a while. I've read where a few people have stitched wounds like this up but I'm not sure if I should try that or not. It was total unexpected that we got her as...
