well from what I am learnging danger chicken house......yes......I have raised hens for over 2 yrs and apparently this is a prob with lack of protein....however...all I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT IS IF ANYONE CAN SUGGEST HOW OFTEN TO FEED ADDITIONAL PROTEIN IF YOU ARE FEEDING YOUR HENS A STANDARD...
ok they might be bored.....because they have eaten all the grass in the yard that they are in however I do know that there is no overcrowding.....they have their coop which allows them 14 sq ft per chicken....and they have a door in their coop that lets them into 100x100 yard to peck and scratch...
I was having an issue with one chickend pulling feathers out of a few of my younger hens....and I posted it in another forum on this site and I was told that they were basically getting too much scratch and to give them chicken......I did and they threw down on it.....so I am contemplating...
well I put 1 13oz can out for 14 chickens and you would think I just served them filet mignon........HOLLY COW......they are like litttle vultures......even the one that wont east ANY scraps is in there trhowing down...........wow......so how often should I do this for them......I LOVE happy...
well I happen to have some canned chicken that I can give them today.....and I am roasting a chicken tonight for dinner so I can give that to them too......how much should they get per chicken???

now for my current issue......I have about 14 hens in the back yard....they are free range and vary in age....I have 2 americauna's 2 plymoth rock....2 black...
I did clean her up just now with warm water......but I am really more worried about her legs....she doesnt seem to be able to walk.......she kinda flaps and stumbles.....can a cripple chick survive....
hey Ya'll......I need some help.....one of my last baby chicks hatched by the momma is having some issues.....it has been trying to poop all day and there is poop coming out but it vent (?) is steadily oozing poop and has been coing it all day.....also its legs dont seem straight and it is not...
well I have ANOTHER PEEPER........I had no idea it took this long for them to hatch.......I checked after my second post and there was another shell broken open and I checked again and it is still in there...in the shell.......and the membrane was sry so I pulled a few of the broken peices off...
my brooder is a box in my garage where they have a light and food and water...the are pooping great and chirping great....very alert and very FAST...
I am going to go get fencing today for the bottom of the coop....my question is will mama aka"goldie" take the baby chicks back and should I pull...
broody hatched 3 eggs still sitting on 6 more....I am going to wait until thursday to see if any of the others hatch and in the mean time I have separated the chickes from the mom b/c they are ready to eat and drink and mom is still setting the other 6 eggs....if they dont hatch what do I do...
she has only been sitting on them since friday.......and I thought washing them was definately not a good thing.......please let me know ASAP cause I have them on top of the fridge and I can put them back under her tonight....that would be WONDERFUL!!!

well I covered the other half of the nest box with a dark towel and she is back in there on the nest with a ceramic egg.......I jumped the gun and brought in her other fert eggs and washed them so now I have to wait til tuesday to go to the hardware store and get some more fert eggs......so we...
OK I think I made a HUGE mistake.....and I dont know what to do.....
we were right in the middle of placing our new coop and taking the old one apart for spare parts when my 3+ (?) yr old hen decided it was time for her to set...and of course she chooses the coop that we needed the parts...
Miss Lydia.....no worries......I felt no blow.....and sorry if I sounded defensive because I did not mean to come off that way.....I do beleive I was an idiot.....and should of locked them up.....but since we built the new coop and run they had isolated one of the hens on the lower pecking order...
