Recently my female quail has plucked the feathers off of the male just above where the tail feathers are. I've never had this happen before, one male I had a while back did this to his mate but never have I seen the female pluck the male before. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? My cage...
Mom and dad have been right next to each other so they should be fine. I'm not sure if the chicks know how to drink out of a rodent water bottle (that's what I use for them since I can't find a poultry waterer small enough for quail)
When is the right time to separate the mom from the chicks. It's been about 8 weeks and the male keeps calling all the time. When can I put mom back with the male?
Just bought a net and used it for the first time. I'm never going back to using my hands.
I've been wondering about this for a while.
Does it mean anything if button quail blink at you? Does it have to do with stress or communication?
Thank you for your insight. I was able to put one of the chicks back with mom and he's doing well. I am currently keeping my male in a separate cage. He is always trying to get to my female(his mate) and I'm worried he might hurt himself in the process. Is there a preferred time that males are...
My 6 month old button quail recently hatched 5 eggs and they all were with her the first night. When I got back from school today, I found 3 of them on the ground outside of the cage with their bodies all bent in awkward positions. The drop is about 2 1/2 feet. I picked them up thinking they...
So Snow, the one in the above pictures, is jumping up and down in his? Cage. This only happens at night and only occasionally what do you think this is a d can I stop it?
I now believe it's a guy because when I put them near each other, one went crazy trying to get to him. It's hard to tell cause it's a tuxedo? except that my male makes all these territorial sounds and the tuxedo? one doesn't.
I recently had to separate one of my quails and I gave her an stuffed animal for company, but is there another way to keep her happy/not depressed? My other ones are always chirping softly, but I've never heard her make a sound since I moved her. Is this normal?
I'm feeding them finely ground quail crumble and they have water 24/7. The top of the cage is a blanket that absorbs the bounce but he might have bounced up into the lamp? He ls fine with balance.
