Hey all I have to move and where I'm headed I can't keep my flock. 1 BO, 1 Polish Blue/White, 1 Silkie White, 1 Bantam Cochin, 1 EE, 1 Marans
Free, but can't ship. In SoCal area. Can meet or have you pick up but can't ship.
Hey all been a while since I've been through here, quite frankly everything with our girls has been going swimmingly. Of ocurse until today. Our EE has been honking a very loud BAGAAAWWWKF all day. She's been laying for weeks, has never done this before, and there haven't been any boys around...
Hey all, our Sweet B is 3 eggs in 3 days, and today she laid in the nestbox! Thing is...two days in a row when she laid the egg she just stayed there basically until I bothered her by trying to sneak a peek at an egg. She wasn't aggressive or anything like that so I don't think that it is...
Never woulda known. They seem to do a good job foragin in their 4 or so backyard hours a day, but a lil extra from an already available source woulda been too good! Thanks!!
Hey all, our small flock is thriving and its very exciting. Our 3 infamous Silkies have been confirmed, rather loudly, to be boys. The 4th from that order seems to be pullet. 8 chickens in all...how'd THAT happen?
Anyway, we have some leftover aquarium stones, the small blue coated kind...
Our BO hen (18-19weeks) is friendly, used to hop in laps but is a little more standoffish now...hoping that will subside when she starts laying. OUr EE and 2 of our Silkies aren't opposed to the idea, and the other 3 Silkies are lunatics and nothing works. They were all raised about the same...
Give the babies a week or so to start developing more and then I would give them another week where they can see each other but not get at each other. We used teh "observation tunnel" with older ones and it generally worked well. Some pecking and such is inevitable, but this usually lessens it.
None of ours are laying yet, which is fine, but we're trying to be prepared with all the knowledge we can. So far, so good. I did have one random thought. If a hen goes broody and I break it, will she ever go broody again? I ask because I think I won't want babies one time but maybe later...
I just saw my 12 week old Silkie roo try to mate, so I doubt it's an age issue. I've heard about roos only liking specific hens, maybe you just chose thge wrong one?
