Those hawks are intense! I noticed my chickens weren't in their little house and I looked over and saw two hiding. Very unusual since they always stay together. I went around to the side of the house and saw a hawk fly off when I startled it with my chickens head in its mouth. Dropped the body...
Thanks everyone for the input! In trying to get a better pic of the last one (who was in her back) and the RIR.... If it even is truely a RIR. I just went by what I was told at the feed store from where I purchased them. I guess it wouldn't of been so bad if the hawk took the males. I didn't...
Does anyone know this ones breed? Don't mind the fact that s(he)'s on her back. I woke up one morning to her hanging upside down caught in metal. Blood on her leg. I was for sure she was dead. But to my amazement I saw her breathing and shaking. Not knowing what the heck I was doing I figured it...
She must be a mutt This is my first time with chickens so I wasn't sure what I got when I got it. I just picked the cutest fluffiest ones. An older gentleman gave me a tip and told me to pick the biggest ones and not the cute tiny ones. I can't wait to explore and get more.
Okay, finally got a picture up. I have 4. They all pretty much look the same except the RIR is much "thinner" than the others. See I originally had 7. I was told I had 4 females and 3 males. One died as a chick and unfortunately a hawk got to two. So I don't know the ratio. Obv if I have less...
When I purchased them they were said to be 2 weeks old. That'd would make them around 17 weeks old. I still can't figure out how to tell the gender. Thank you!
I wasn't planning on getting any Roos intentionally. The feed store was unclear on sex... Some guy sexed them for me but I'm not sure what I have. One passed on the way home. He/she chocked on a loose string from the towel I had put under them. It's now buried in our yard with some baby birds...
I want even more. 6 seems like enough though. Although I'm told not to keep more than one rooster so I guess depending on how that goes I'll just replace the rooster with another hen! No bloody poo. It's actually not even really runny anymore. The little ones poo is still a bit runny. I'm hoping...
Maude.
Betty.
These two are very VERY loud when separated. When put back together they are fine. They typically stick by each others side at all times. The other ones are loud all the time. Except one of the little colorful black ones loves to follow the bigger girls around.
My friend who was taking are of a family members 7 hens and 1 rooster is going to give me their coop since they no longer need it. Now that that's situated I need to figure out how to upload a picture.
