    Broken Toe

The problem is that before I got her, she'd broken a bone more central in her foot, and the way it healed, that whole foot is a bit swollen-looking compared to the other. I'm glad the general consensus is positive though, she's a nice bird and I was worried. She's a bit out of spirits- not...

    Broken Toe

She lost the tip of her toe overnight, so it looks a lot less gruesome than before (the talon had been broken in half and the toe bent sideways at that break, like I said. Sprayed it with disinfectant, it's a lot less muddy since it's not bleeding; she usually keeps her feet pretty clean. So...

    Broken Toe

I have a large bronze hen, friendly as anything and healthy to boot. Today, she got her toe caught in something whilst free-ranging, and when I found her, I didn't realize right away (she has a limp already, from before she came to me). When I had brought her back to her pen, however, she...

I need some help i cant get rid of the mites on my chickens

I clean the coop, bleach it out if I'm able to dry it after, lay a (very) thin layer of powdered chemical lime, then do a layer of cedar shavings, because of cedar's toxicity. Hay in the nests if I have birds that are picky at the moment. Then I dust the birds with mite powder and leave it at...

    Rooster coming when called?

My roo, Bullwinkle, responds to his name, and the whole flock run over if I click my tongue at them to call them, even the younguns I've only had for a week. I love it.

Your own dogs: Good or Bad

Just what it says. In more clear terms- do your dogs rotect your chickens and keep pests out, or do you need to keep them away from you birds, far away? Or do they just not care? My last two Shepherds didn't care about the chickens much, but kept coons and such away. Following them, my youngest...

    Frizzle-cross chicks? What sex?

Looks like it'll be a roo on the left and a pullet on the right, both from the combs and the way they hold themselves. However, that's definitely not definitive

    Is she choking?

With mine this would usually just be panting, but take Wynette's advice to be safe.

    first time broody

If the eggs have gone cold, chuck 'em, they won't hatch. (if it were me, this would be into the neighbor's yard, but perhaps this wouldn't work for you). If you want her to hatch eggs, let her keep some (different ones, if these ones won't work) and perhaps mark them so you can tell if other...

What do you think this is?

I'm new to ducks, and I've been told both Rouen and Khaki Campbell. S/he (apparently) hatched this spring. Someone brought her to the farm where I work and they didn't want her, so, knowing I had poultry, they thought I'd like it.
