I had a squirrel chew threw chicken wire on one of my pens. The hole it made was just big enough to get through. When I found it, it was clinging to the highest part of the chicken wire as if it was scared of what it got itself into. It took a while to get it out of there also.
We have a large white rooster that for a year we thought was a hen. He is a year old and we just heard him crow for the first time, and he is just now getting spurs. Kinda crazy. Not sure on the breed to be honest. Might be a white rock.
You can use plastic white or brown eggs or painted wooden eggs. They sale these at some stores just for this reason. The chickens will see the eggs and go to lay there.
We have had the same thing happen to us. Except ours was white. We had some wild peacocks at one time roaming around us. And that was our theory but we couldnt figure out how it got into the coop. So now I guess it is possible for a chicken to lay a egg 4x the normal size. Thanks for helping me...
Try taking a band-aid and putting the gauze center directly in between the legs (you will have to straighten them yourself of course) and wrap the sticky parts around the back. Make sure you line the legs up with the edges of the center. This should straighten the legs out. You will have to...
