I'm not sure. We got our first batch of chicks from a hatchery and had them vaccinated. The new chicks we got from a farm and I guess we stupidly assumed that they were. I am so mad at myself.
That's what I'm fearing, too. She looks a little better this morning, putting a little weight through her legs and she drank on her own, which she didn't do yesterday, but she still doesn't look great.
Hey, all. I posted yesterday in a different thread about a sick EE chick of mine. We noticed yesterday that she didn't go into the run with her sisters and when I looked in, she was sitting all puffed out and doing this thing where she extends her neck and opens her beak wide. She looked worse...
She seems worse now. We left to go to the store for supplies to help her, and got a flat tire. Long story, but the flat tire could not be changed by us or tow truck. Sigh.
We moved her inside to her own brooder. She was falling down much more, and now is just laying. Feathers all drooping...
Just came home from work and she looks worse!! Sitting all fluffed out and when she went to run away she looked very uncoordinated. Still doing the mouth/neck thing. Lots of blinking/looks lethargic and sleepy. I'm so upset. Going to separate her and try some apple cider vinegar and medicated...
Hey, all! I went out this morning to check on our chicks and my easter egger isn't looking good to me! She was sitting with her feathers kind of ruffled out and then is doing a thing where she extends her neck and opens her mouth wide (no sound comes out.)
I didn't get to do much research...
I read a thread about lash recently (if you didn't just eat breakfast, check it out...)

Could that be it?
Oh, Tommy. My husband may or may not be trying to teach our dog to retrieve his beer. We had an incident/popped can last week & I think it's equivalent to chickens eating eggs-- once they have the taste, it's hard to fix.
Hope you all enjoyed the sunny WI spring day today! We free ranged for the first time and it was a great success. So fun to watch them scratch around and enjoy some freedom. :)
(P.S that chicken is not drinking beer. She is behind the can.)
Chickies are looking better overall this morning. After lots of reading on BYC last night I gave a little sugar water and that perked them up a lot. Once they drank, they ate and ate and ate and looked better.
Still acting chilly this morning, but not wanting to go in MHP. Keeping a close eye...
It's helpful to hear any ideas! I am kind of a nervous wreck about them right now. I don't want them to be uncomfortable or unhealthy-I'm such a baby and a terrible farmer! Do you think I should put them outside of the MHP? I'm just nervous they will get too cold, but I also don't want them to...
Ok, all. Nervous chick mama here. We brought home 5 chicks today (posted above!) and they looked good when we picked them up. Got them home and they are all really lethargic. I know transport is stressful, but the chicks we got in the mail seemed to be far more active than the ones we brought...
Well, chicken math is real. 5 new babies are under our tried & true MHP. Hubby sewed a cute little cover for it out of flannel to make it extra snuggly for them.
I'm officially a crazy chicken lady.
2 Easter Eggers
2 Barred Rock
1 Lavender Orpington
Does anyone know where I could find a couple easter egger or ameraucana chicks in southern Wisconsin? I want to add some colored egg layers. Chicken math is real!!
23 weeks 2 days- FIRST EGG!!!
I think it was one of my Wyandottes- I noticed her comb looked different yesterday and went out and saw her squat for the first time today, so I went to the coop & this was in the nest box!
I think my excitement made Mia pretty curious. ha.
