I used these bags for my cornish cross chickens. The ones I ordered came with a heavier duty straw to put in the mouth of the bag when you zip tied it, and don't cinch it tight. Then once it shrinks you withdraw the straw and tighten the zip tie. That way you don't have to make a slit in the bag...
The girls I have now just started laying 2 weeks ago, and my eggs have not been dirty either. Yes, I think that it is actually normal for them to be clean. Enjoy your birds, and your eggs!
As stated, it's because it's a first egg. My girls just started laying about 1.5 weeks ago and the first egg I found was on the small side. Then when the second layed first egg it was small, and so on til my 4th layed first egg today, again small. I have found a couple eggs half buried in the...
I would say that it would be "healthy" minus the honey. Cooking it for them and giving it to them in the mornings is nice after a cold night in the coop. No they don't have a means of cooking it on their own. But the fact that you are doing it for them just shows that you love and spoil your...
Karen, I'm thinking that your chickens are lacking in calcium. They need the calcium for the shells to harden. Try giving them oyster shell for a calcium source, or you can feed them egg shells. Either way they need the calcium.
Ahhh, Michigan's great Upper Peninsula eh? I have used the fermented food for meaties and layers. Have liked the results with both, especially with the meaties. My current group of layers that I have on fermented feed have not started laying yet, so can't speak on the egg quality. I do like how...
I would still check the ingredients on the bag. I'm thinking it possible that even though you haven't changed the feed that you're buying, maybe the feed company changed what they are putting in the food. Not seeing any connection to having the new chick affecting egg flavor.
That's awesome. My current flock of birds were born the end of May, and I"m anxiously waiting for them to start laying. Heck yeah you can eat them. You only get first eggs one time. Enjoy your eggs, and if no one's told you yet:
I have heard, and for the most part found it true, that humans can break down almost all peppers during digestion. There is something about jalapenos that we are not able to fully digest and are the peppers that burn on the way out as well as on the way in. I've paid attention because I like...
Go to the website egg cartons dot com. They have the best selection of egg cartons that I've found. I understand what you're saying about the fiber/cardboard type ones. How about the styrofoam ones? Check them out.
Just wondering if my RSL's, and BSL's will be delayed in onset of laying with the shortening days of fall? I'm thinking my BR's, and BA's probably will be. Hoping not, but not going to hold my brreath either.
