    Sick Hen

Epsom salt was a recommendation. I believe for the magnesium not for its laxative effect. As stated, she is in one area, open feed dishes - kept in the same place so she knows where they are at. Her feed is mostly starter/grower which is 18%. Also she is not blind, just seems to be having...

    Sick Hen

Oddly, I just got this post. She is not laying, you can see the pale comb ( yes, it’s pale). I have kept her in since she stopped standing and walking. She lost a lot of weight as she is finding it difficult to see. It does look like she is getting some pin feathers. Also, she seems to be...

    Sick Hen

She was bought as a mix, so she isn’t any particular breed. She is typically a very large bird. She has been trying to use her legs (Poorly), but she has been trying. I have been giving her nearly everything, under the sun. Seems like anyways. I keep her food very wet as she doesn’t like being...

    Sick Hen

Apparently, I am not getting all the replies. Not sure why. Anyways, I don’t think she got anything dead. They are enclosed with a privacy fence, in my backyard. They have free range of that. I have about 30 + chickens here. Probably about a third or so are her age. A couple being older. The...

    Sick Hen

She’ll be 5 years this November. No marek’s here that I am aware of. She was not vaccinated as I bought her with a group of chicks and I am sure the seller did not do that

    Sick Hen

This started about a week or so ago. My hen was having trouble eating. It was like she couldn’t see the dish. She would peck, but miss it. She did seem to recognize red, her water is in old Folgers coffee buckets, they are red. She wouldn’t drink from the kiddie pool anymore. She was starting to...

    House Sparrows in Coop

aart mentioned a pet strip door. I love this idea. I usually leave the big door open as well as the smaller chicken door. I worry about certain chickens controlling the door. Which they have done. Unfortunately, the big door allows birds easy access into the coop and I had a pair of birds nest i...

I also agree with eggcessive. Try to keep her in dim room.

    Hawk attack, eye question

My hen kept her eye shut for nearly 3 weeks, but she did finally open it. I gave her penicillin for possible infection and kept her in a quiet room until she recovered. She was in a plastic tote with towels or old t-shirts so she was comfortable. I had to change her bedding a couple of times a...

Poop Stuck on Chicken’s butt. Please Help!

I have cleared pasty butt from chicks with soaking in warm water and gently massaging the mass in the water. (Gloved hands of course). Once everything is moist and loosened, it will come of or you can clip it easier.

Btw I kept my hen inside for the 3 weeks. Right now I have a Silkie Rooster that is quarantined, but he is in my garage (just in case he crows).

I am wondering how your Rooster is doing? I don’t see an update. I had a hen attacked by a hawk a couple of months ago. She had some nasty wounds. I used an ointment and I think that trapped bacteria in the wounds. When I upped her penicillin she recovered beautifully. It took about 3 weeks, but...
