    Magpies

We have 1 magpie duck that is about 6 months old. The duck is lonely and needs a friend, yet everywhere I've looked is sold out of magpie's. Does anyone know of any for sale or have any to sell? I'm in Indiana and depending on location I'd even be willing to come pick up.

Need ideas for when I go on vacation please!

I'm going on vacation in about 2 weeks. I will be gone for 2 weeks. I have a flock of about 11 adult chickens, 6 adult ducks, 9 juvenile turkeys, and over a dozen little baby chicks and ducks. I'd planned ahead (or so I thought) with building an inverted PVC pipe feeder that I assumed would last...

    Ordered 7...got SIXTEEN

Please help. I have always loved Ideal Poultry. But this placed an order of 7, and received 16 - of course the surplus being all males. I will have to sell them or give them away because frankly, they will outnumber my hens by 2 to 1 (hence my strategic order). Anyway, enough about my anger. I...

    Bloody mucus and death

Yesterday evening, i noticed my layer huddled in the corner of the coop. She didnt scamper off when we collected eggs, and really barely moved. I looked and saw she was a bloody, mucus mess in her vent area. Shes just under a year old, andhasnt laid in about a month. Shes never been a frequent...

    All my baby chicks died...WHY???

Well, I don't think I can say it's just my luck anymore. I purchased 2 chicks and 2 ducks last week at my local farm store. The chicks died. Same symptoms as the chicks that I hatched from my own eggs. Obviously I have some sort of disease going around. But what I don't know is what disease...

    All my baby chicks died...WHY???

Hmm, the nutrition could be a factor. That might be something to look at. I have read the hatching 101, so I did calibrate the thermometer and also put 2 extra ones in the incubator as well. So honestly, the temp and humidity should have been ok in there as I put a damp sponge in too. But the...

    All my baby chicks died...WHY???

I lovingly refer to them as mutt eggs from my own flock. It did go terrible. We wanted so badly for it to work out. And frankly, I'm scared to try again. I don't want to selfishly bring more into this world and 2atch them die. Thank you for your response.

    All my baby chicks died...WHY???

I tried hatching my own eggs for the first time within the past month. I started out using my broody hen, but pulled the eggs at day 18-21 (they were set on different days...didn't know you should set on the same date) and put them in a new incubator after mama hen ate a hatching and pipped egg...

    my pipped egg is gone!

She wouldn't have moved for a snake or eat, I don't think. I have to physically remove her myself. There are 4 eggs left under her. There was another egg that just disappeared about 10 days ago. There is a wet spot in the box by the other eggs. It is underneath where she sits. We are going to...

    my pipped egg is gone!

My egg that pipped this morning is completely gone! Was she hiding it??? Did broody eat it? I don't understand how a hen can actually kill a chick that far along. There is no trace. Please help. We are so sad.

    Finally! A sign of life!

I've posted a few times now about my first time trying hatch eggs. I've yet to have one hatch. I've gone through 5 others that were either not fertilized or met untimely deaths. But tonight, when candling the egg laid on 1/19, I heard CHIRPING! I looked and it appears the chick has been able to...

    Not hatching!!!

The big eggs appear to all be double yolkers. Is that native to a particular breed? I believe they're coming from an Isa Brown.

    Not hatching!!!

I could always do that. I was worried how she'd take care of the 8. While that obviously won't be a problem now, I would think that's a lot. My coop is above ground about 3 feet, and they are not separated from my other chickens.

    Not hatching!!!

I had planned to bring the live chicks inside once hatched.

    Not hatching!!!

You know, you all are so helpful. Thank you so much. I had done hours and hours of research on this. And I guess we live and learn. But it is still so disheartening. Thank you all for the advice. I know what to do next time. I just hope I didn't unnecessarily kill a bunch of emrbyos. That would...
