Quails don't ask a lot, just a quiet safe cage, clean food with >20% protein and clean water. Warm temperature before day 21, some sand for sand bath. Some vegetable after day 21. 14-16 hours of light after day 35 if you like to have eggs.
I put the day old chicks on paper towel for 1 or 2 days, and remove the paper towel and let them on 1/4 X 1/4 inch hard wood cloth from day 2 or 3 until day 21, then move to cage of 1/2 X 1 inch wire at bottom. Works for 2 hatches so far. I'm having eggs starting from day 43.
I got my 1602n with egg turner, fan and Quail rack for $177 from amazon. It's not digital,so you'll need to play with it to get the right temperature and humidity. And every time I opened it to add water, the set temperature would be changed, I had to readjust it. But overall, seems ok so far...
James Marie Farms' service is my big concern. They replied my email pretty quick when I asked how to buy eggs. And since I emailed them with my email used for paypal as well, I saw the money request from Paypal right after I asked how to order eggs, kind of rude. After I send them money...
Hi MA folks,
I'm new on this site. Can anyone share with me where to find good hatching eggs in MA? I'm interested in Red Star, something like this: https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/red_star_hatching_eggs.html, but less expensive.
Thanks,
Tom
