My kids have the digital camera at the moment - hopefully I can post something tomorrow. It's his whole breast that is swollen and it hangs down quite far. Between drinking alot and his diarrhea, I'm pretty sure he's fighting an infection but what it is concerns me, too. So far, the other...
We let them out to free range yesterday & he had a large lump on his chest that seems to be full of water. I was able to get some out with a syringe (he was such a good boy about it too ) but it's still swollen somewhat. We seperated him and brought him back in the house . He is drinking more...
We have 1 1/2 yr old Speckled Sussex who I'm pretty sure has gone broody but in a bad spot - our hedgerow. She's our first Speckled (we got her at a yr.) & I didn't know if they were normally broody or not. The previous owner said she'd never done it there. I plan on def. moving her though!
Thank you for the ideas! I'm getting her the meds tomorrow & am really hoping she doesn't have anymore. One question though - should we build her a seperate pen for when she gets older? I would hate to have her have one free ranging with the others. Thanks!
We have a Cuckoo Maran pullet who has had 3 seizures that we know of. The first was 3 weeks ago and we thought it was an isolated incident but she had another last night & this morning. She's by herself & still in the house but by our 3 wk old guineas & a Polish boy who got picked on . She's...
We aren't sure if she fell off a roost or something. She's still young enough that the roosters aren't bothering her so it couldn't be that. We're wondering if it might be higher up or maybe she did fall & hurt it that way.
We have a 5 mo. old Polish/Black Star cross (Blue ) who's been limping for the better part of 2 weeks now. We've checked her leg and foot and the only thing we find is one scale that's a bit lifted right above her foot. No bugs or anything on her or anyone else in the flock. I did give her a...
We have a 5 mo. Polish/Black Star cross (Blue )who's been limping on & off for a little over a week & it's getting progressively worse (today she only puts it down to hobble around). We've checked & see nothing other than a tiny little mark right where her leg goes into her foot - it looks...
So far so good with the little peeper - it loves the mirror and stuffed animals. The closest batch of chicks that we have is 4 weeks older than him with no more on the way so it'll be by itself for awhile I guess. Hopefully it'll be fine with the flock when it is old enough - it's quite spoiled...
Thank you for your help! I put in 2 stuffed animals and a mirror & it's settled right down. Laying in front of the mirror talking to it - too cute!! Anything else I should watch for? Should it be ok with the older chickens when it's old enough?
We only hatched 2 chicks out of 8 this time and one of the little peepers died this afternoon leaving a lone chick. I don't know what to do for the little guy. It seems okay for now but what about company, etc. ANY ideas at all would be very appreciated ! We've always had at least 2 together so...
Thank you for your help! Come to think of it (lightbulb moment...), this egg was a bit closer to the heating element than the others. I did have the therms. off to the side but raised up so they must have been in a colder spot. Should the rough navel heal okay? This is our third time hatching...
Well, after our last incubating issue, we decided to try some of our own eggs to see if it was the incubator or not. Anyway, it's day 18 and I took the turner out - well a few hours later a polish cross is hatched. But, it has an 'outie'. Doesn't seem to have any signs of infection but I'm...
Thank you - I wondered if it might be that after reading from our I & E workshop paperwork. We just had another hatch whose yolk sac was mostly outside it's body - it burst and is just a small piece now. That one is doing ok for now. We're really thinking it's the batch of eggs that we bought...
We're in the middle of hatching a batch of RIRs and have a problem with one. The first one to pip took 24 hrs. to hatch and when it did, it has a swollen abdomen and seems to have an enlarged area on it's neck. It did have some slight greenish discharge when it did come out. It cheeps and moves...
We live in Nichols but Binghamton is the closest city next to Elmira. We'd love to know of anything locally - it's hard to travel too far with the farm. Thanks!
Thank you for the website - unfortunately they didn't have any . My husband is looking for blue polish & they seem hard to come by, too. We currently have RIRs, Buff & Golden Polish, Light Brahmas, Black Stars, Black Giants, and a Silver Hamburg - all spoiled rotten .
