    Training LGD Questions

Thank you for the responses! Just to clarify the boys and the chickens are separated by a fence, they both have been trained to protect poultry, and the lab has had a history of playing with, but not killing, young birds and he started training right after the 1 month mark. We have decided to...

    Training LGD Questions

Today I went outside to find my kid had left the door to the coop open and accidentally let our newly adopted 4 year old pyr and our 7 month old lab/pyr/anatolian out. There were no dead birds, but we found the end of a wing and three of our birds had gone missing including our now lopsided...

Does anyone take chicks away from momma?

I have heard people who recommend separating the chicks, but, personally, I usually just put them all together. I've never had a problem with age differences in chicks.

Charlie the axolotl is a cutie!! I've been wanting one for a while, but I'm not sure about getting an albino vs. a regular coloration just for axolotl color awareness!

    Roo Choked on Food

He is doing so much better now. He slept for about an hour after I posted and now he is running around with the other chicken acting normal. I gave him electrolytes with a dropper and he's back to sleeping again. Hopefully he'll be back on track pretty soon!!

    Roo Choked on Food

I went out after feeding the chickens this morning to find my two month old roo laying in the grass almost unresponsive. His crop was full, but his throat and mouth were also full of feed. I grabbed tweezers and pulled it out while massaging his crop and neck. Now he is in the brooder with my...

    Jersey Giants vs Croad Langshans

Does anybody know the major differences between Jersey Giants and Langshans? Size, egg production, egg colour, behavior, and any other comparisons between the breeds would all be very helpful. Thanks in advance!!! Edit: wrong thread whoops!!

A BEE thread....for those interested in beekeeping.

Sure Beekissed. I have two of the dogs. Their mom was a Anatolian/Great Pyrenees mix and their dad was a neighbors black lab. Both of the dogs are super good with our chickens and are almost perfect guard dogs. The lab blood makes their mouths very soft, so even if they try to "play" with a...

April Fools 2016 - New Development: Chicken Feed That Changes Egg Shell Color!

It does sound like a good product for someone who wants a certain color from their hens, but not for mixed flocks already designed to pump out whites, browns, blues, greens, greys, and pinks. However I do wish this product good luck!!!!!!

    Paralyzed Leg?

My poor chick is having trouble standing up. I've tried to get her to perch and it seems like she can't use her left leg very well. She is also not balancing very well. She isn't lethargic though. She is eating and drinking and even played with other chicks for a while, but I'm worried she...

    Raising baby chicks

If you want to make sure they come when you call, call them by their names, or whatever you want them to respond to when you put down their food. I've done this with my birds and they will dart across the lawn every time I call them. I have a big pool box to house my ducklings and a two story...
