    Back after Cancer

I was looking for Marans and Wyandottes, none of which are available on Murray McMurray for the rest of the year.

    Back after Cancer

Hi, All. I had a beautiful flock I had to give away in 12/2018 due to cancer. I am finally getting back in the saddle again; cleaning up the coop, chicken yard, vegetable garden, etc. I have been looking into purchasing chicks but find that the hatcheries are sold out of a lot of the breeds I...

    sand or limestone grit?

Hi. I am building a coop. I was going to put down a layer of sand under the deep litter base. I was also going to put down a layer of sand around it to keep the mud down. When I called my local excavating guy, he told me that all the chicken guys in my area use limestone grit. This is the dust...

    sand or limestone grit?

Hi. I am going to use sand in the coop for a base for deep litter and around the coop to keep the mud down. My local excavator told me that the chicken farmers in the area use limestone grit in their chicken yards. This is the fine, ground dust from limestones. Has anyone heard of this?

    Help with predators

It's been pretty traumatic here. I raised the birds from chicks. It's been a bad week. They didn't fly over. The first ones disappeared completely. Then I found body parts near the fence.

    Help with predators

Guess I'm done explaining and talking about this. I can live without judgement and sarcasm. There is more to this than I care to explain here because the more I explain, the more I open myself up to criticism. Forget it.

    Help with predators

Yes. Something got in and took chickens, lock, stock, and barrel. However, after that, I found the dogs chasing the chickens around. They are border collies and are 'herding' them. However, after having had something get in and take chickens, this was the frosting on the cake.

    Help with predators

Thanks, all. Yes, the puppies have been tormenting the chickens. They have been 'playing' but something else got in and ravaged the flock. The puppies are quarartined for now, the fence is fixed, and a camera is in place.

    Help with predators

Thank you, Howard. I do walk the fence. There is only one wire that runs above the 5 foot field fence. There are no tree branches or anything else touching it. Thanks. Robbin

    Help with predators

Thank you all so much. I am most appreciative. I replaced the charger for the fence with an electric model instead of a solar one. I found fox and raccoon tracks a little farther away, outside of the fenced in area. I believe it was a fox that got in and took them. Holy Cow, Thomas, I cannot...

    Help with predators

Gee....I never thought of that one. It's pretty high but it's possible. I will keep my eyes open. Maybe they will turn up. I have so many raccoons and fox around, though, I doubt they would make it.

    Help with predators

Hi. I have a few chickens, ducks, and geese in a 1/4 acre area enclosed by a five foot field fence with an electric wire running above it. I have two Border Collie/Red Heeler 10 week old puppies in with the flock. Yesterday one of my Buckeye pullets disappeared. I checked the fence and found...
