Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

Seven in the brooder, one catching its breath in the 'bator. Didn't see any new pips since this morning. Hope someone else hatches soon, I hate putting only one new one in at a time. (I have some toe-biters in there!)

    Humility Problem

I don't put water in mine unless it gets below 23%. I crank it up at lockdown though. The dry incubation works well for me. We hatched out over 50 chicks from a homemade 'bator last year.

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

Just watched the tiniest egg (2nd to pip) zip and hatch. Will try to get a picture when the window is clear again. (Next tweak to the homemade bator is double-paned glass!) The other hasn't started zipping, but is still peeping away so I'll leave it until tomorrow afternoon. That'll be 24...

Urgent Do Not Think A Baby Chick Will Make It

I'm so sorry! Adrian is right, you gave her more chances than she would have had and made her as comfortable as possible. It is never easy losing a little one (feathered or otherwise), give yourself some time to grieve.

Urgent Do Not Think A Baby Chick Will Make It

You could try the paper tape you'd buy to hold gauze on a wound. I know some people here use it when chick toes need taped. The box says flexible, but I don't know how well it would let your baby bend that knee. If you have a steady hand you might be able to stick a tiny square of gauze to the...

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

Yay, Rock-n-Roo! More pictures please!! G&A, hang in there. It appears my eggs count better than I do. I was panicked that none pipped yesterday (my day 21), but today I have two pips (one's a peeper). I have staggered hatches in there, so when I topped off the water I candled one that isn't...

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

Likely you will have to start over. It's hard (and I bet your friend feels rotten), but if they were that hot for long at all you'll have trouble. No pips yet. Today is day 21. (I really need to find a gif of someone chewing their nails off typewriter-style. So many of you are having great...

Poor thing. (Bossy siblings!) Sounds like she's a fighter, though. Still for you and her.

I love the pictures!!! Keep them coming! Saturday seems so long off. *sigh* Thanks for letting me live vicariously.

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

On day 18 we up the humidity, close (lock down) the 'bator... and sit on our hands for 3 days. It's a little like putting up the stockings at Christmas, but the wait is longer and it looks more like Easter when all's said and done.

Kraig, I'm so sorry. Glad you were able to buy some little guys... er, gals. I lock down tomorrow. Best of luck to everyone!

You are all getting me excited! My lockdown isn't until Wednesday. Don't know if I can wait that long. Wistlin, it's dark in there!!! Best of hatching vibes everyone! Can't wait to see all the fuzzybutts!!

**Anyone make dividers for hatching different breeds in an incubator?

Here's how I would do it if I had used a regular carton (two-row type). https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=19548-homemade-incubator Thanks to ArizonaDesertChicks for being easy to find in Google. (I was too lazy to find the parts and photograph. ) I think the nice thing...

**Anyone make dividers for hatching different breeds in an incubator?

Deana, we used the pencil circles to mark the edge of the air cell. This helped us point the eggs toward the window during lockdown so we could have the best chance of watching a pip/zip. In previous hatches we had marked the air cell each time we candled, this time we only did it on day 18...

**Anyone make dividers for hatching different breeds in an incubator?

I've done what Steve suggested. You can also slit the canvas half way on the top of one sheet and the bottom of the other, then slide them together to get a cross piece. I'd still twist tie the tops and bottoms. Here's how mine looked last year. I did have a rambunctious one go along the...

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

@2012: The closer they get to hatching the less you'll see! They take up so much room in the egg. Candled again (not all of them, just the ones from Sat/Monday and the three questionable ones.) Those 3 were bad. The one that had all the veins pointing straight down developed a blood ring. So I...

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

2012, I only have a home made styrofoam 'bator, so I'm not certain about your LG. I have a couple of strategies. I can use the turkey baster to add water to the pie pan under the hardware cloth. Usually that's all I have in there the first 18 days. At lockdown I put a car washing sponge (good...

Just set 34 eggs in the bator... March 3rd hatch... who's with me? lol

Candled tonight. I have 32 with definite little swimmers, 3 more that looked right, but I never saw movement. There are still a handful that we put in Sat and Mon that it's too soon to tell on (though I did see a little swimmer in a couple from Saturday). Pulled 2, one looked clear, the other...
