Hi Everyone,
I need your expertise on this matter. I have yet to experience my chickens go through their first molt. All my girls are atleast 12 months old and the oldest is 19 months old. I live in Arizona and its extremely hot here now, so Im not sure what to make of these girls.

Hi all!
I read thru this thread and I have some questions:
I have 2 3montg old silkie chicks that I have found live on. One worse than the other. I've already bought the poultry powder for them but I'm reading tons of info on wood ash.....does this really work?
Like wood ash from my...
Wondered if any of you have had this happen.....I just acquired a 10month old silkie Roo who is gorgeous and proud of his new flock of ladies, but we've got a problem, Seymour has decided to start full blown crowing between 2 and 3 am!!
He seriously thinks he sees the sun!! After his 30 min...
Hi all,
I need your wisdom on a situation with one of my girls.....My favorite girl at that! Phyllis is a Australorp that I've had for about 8 months now, she is gorgeous, and seems to be doing great in every sense. Here is my issue, she just started limping a couple of days ago, but it...
Hi all!!!!
Can you guys help me out with this molting dilemma I have?? How can I tell when my girls start molting?
My chicken coop looks like a plumage debacle every morning! I count them at all times to make sure they are all there! My husband is starting to worry about me since it's all I...
My run is about 4 times the size of yours, its 24x24 and yes only half of the top is covered since it is so large, they get plenty of shade. The coop is not part of the run, it is its own little structure attached to the run it is smaller but also open on all sides and the boxes are under the...
I do not have one of those pre-fab ones, my husband and I built our own with a run as well. 3 of the girls were in the nesting boxes and one died right next to the waterer. The coop has 3 open sides to it with the cover on top and the run is all open with just half the top covered.
I to live in AZ......just came home to 5 of my girls dead in the coop! They had water but I'm guessing it was just too much! They are shaded but have a couple of hours late afternoon that get direct sun. Now I know I could wet the sand tho, and we'll use a front shade as well
I may be going out of town this coming weekend, and I'm sure the girls will be ok for that time and they will have plenty of water and food, but my question is they all lay daily, would those eggs be no good by the time I get back in the Az heat? Plus I have a broody hen right now that I'm sure...
Then after the 2 weeks do you let momma and babies go in the coop with the others? Will there come a point when the other girls won't try to kill the babies?
Hi all! God I love this site! I need your help, I have a broody bantam that is going on her 4th week I figured I would see if she broke herself from it but doesn't look that way.....I take her out of the nest a couple of times daily and she eats, drinks, scratches, hangs out for a little bit...

Why is it a bad habit for chickens to sleep in the nesting boxes? Mine seem to take turns doing it, I've never seen a problem with it but if someone could explain it would be helpful
Uh oh daddy is not going to be happy!
Can you guys tell me what saddle feathers are? And also what other things should I look at as tell signs that she is a he? She/he got pretty beat up by a hen that is no longer here when she/he first got here so I don't really know what to look at on the...
Morning everyone,
My little Agnes is 16 weeks today and she is looking a little different than everyone else. I'm starting to wonder if Agnes should be Edward!
There has been no crowing, but the way she stands tall, has green tail feathers, and puffs her neck out at the other girls makes me...
Hi everyone! I'm starting a project today and wanted your advice.
I have 8 full size girls, live in Arizona so most of the time my girls are free range. I have had hawk and coyote issues so I'm building a run for my coop. But here's my question, I'm torn between building a whole new coop and...
