I agree. You can find electrolytes in most feed stores in packages called Save a Chick. I’ve used it in the past and it really helps. I hope you’re chick feels better soon!
We have done research into a local bird sanctuary, but he seems to be doing pretty well right now. Our local sanctuary is usually overrun with mallard ducklings this time of year. Of course, if he shows any signs of needing help we’ll take him.
For years wild Mallards have come to our yard to nest and raise their ducklings. We have a rather large pond and several ditches where multiple mothers will come and raise their babies. Our yard is a very safe environment and we enjoy watching the babies grow up.
About four weeks ago our first...
Hi! I hope I can help you with some of your questions.
Once the chicks have lost their baby fluff and grown in their feathers they are able to regulate their body heat. I usually keep the light for at very least the first couple of weeks or the first two months but I have heard of others doing...
If she does have Marek's what do I do? My parents think that if that is the case maybe I should put her to sleep so that she doesn't have to suffer. Is there anything else I can do? I really like her but I also don't want her to suffer.
Its been going on for about a week maybe. I first noticed it when she was outside. she was keeping to herself and not walking at all. When I tried to get her to walk she fell over so I brought her inside. Her poop is very watery, but her appetite maintains steady and normal. She has started to...
When most roosters begin to sing do not sound pretty or make the sound right at all. I remember when my roosters first started crowing they would sound like dying animals! :lau But they figure it out eventually. If its singing I would say that she is probably a rooster.
Just by looking at the size of its comb and wobble. I think she is actually a he. And if she is starting to crow I think that's an important sign that she might be a rooster. Of course I am no expert so she might still be a girl.

Thank you to all the response to this post it has really helped me a lot! I have one more question. I have one hen that definitely has lice. I separated her, bought some diatomaceous earth, and I dusted her with it. Then since she was weak I let her spend the night inside the house and the next...
She seems fine. I just gave her some food and water last night and she gobbled it up. She also laid down for the first time and she seems more awake. My only concern now is under her wing is really wet when I got up this morning. I was cleaning her up again and the cotton ball came back yellow...
She is still bleeding a bit, not a lot but it hasn't stopped yet. I will feed her some extra protein. Thank you for all the help! Right now I'm just going to clean the wound and let her rest in a dark, warm place. Thank you!
Thank you so much for responding! I do have a young rooster but he is very young, I think what happened was she somehow got to the dogs pen, and our German Shepherd might have scared her a little and she might have cut her self on the fence escaping. I found some of her feathers in the pen. I...
So my 5 month old chick Clarence somehow got a big cut on her side. I think she might have cut herself on a fence, but the point is now she is bleeding and limping and I don't know what to do. I was going to use hydrogen peroxide to clean the wound but I found a post that said not to so now I'm...
Thank you for the help. Sadly I lost my little hen. Now I'm worried that the other hens might get it. None of them are showing any signs yet but just in case How do I prevent this from happening again? And if it does happen is there anything else i should do?
I will try the oyster shells. I tried them in the past but I mixed them in with the food and the girls pecked it out. But I will try it again separated. I'm in Boise Idaho. Thank you for all the help!
