So... a few days ago my mum noticed a hen mounting another hen, never thought anything of it.
Now for the last several days, I myself have seen it...quite the spectacle really. I have a hen/pullet, about 10 months old, who is mating her sibling (were hatched from the same batch of eggs). I only...
Well, I had no restraint. I set a 3rd batch in the incubator. Put in 41 eggs. Lockdown was June 17th at 7:20 pm. Eggs started hatching early afternoon today. 2 have hatched so far, and one more is fully zipped. What causes such an early hatch? They weren't due until the 20th.
My temps were at...
I have this posted in ducks too, but, needing help quickly
stupid me didn't plan things as I should have, the joys of working full time and not having a brain from being tired from 5am shifts.
I have two ducks on the same nest, on a large clutch of eggs, I peeked in today, about 11 have...
I have had 2 welsh harlequin hens sitting on a very large clutch of eggs together. They were due yesterday, so I left them alone.
Just checked on them now............wow !!! there are babies everywhere , to the left, to the right , in front.
I have a third hen who wasn't broody, but, she seems...
I have 5 Welsh Harlequins, and I am finding the boys overrun with their ducky testosterone. The poor girls. The two boys gang up together. when one is mating , the other is helping hold her head under the water.
It's driving me crazy watching them. I want to cook them for dinner, they are being...
I have babies hatching everywhere, humidity just jumped from high 60's to 89..........now , just in case. If a chick is using the hygrometer as a bed, will the body heat from that baby cause the hygrometer to read higher???
as well, my windows don't have condensation built up on them.
so, tell...
I think I have all roos now, and I'm hoping they are as I'm now giving them away. They are all EE's and EE mix. Dads are both EE's
just need a second opinion. They aren't the best pics. All were hatched April 1st.
They all are fairly pink in the comb, some more then others. There are 7 chicks...
So usually i put chicks on med. feed from day one. this year, silly me bought four chicks too from feed store, they had been vaccinated, so advised against med. feed.
None of the chicks are on the ground yet, but if not sold soon will be going to the barn.
Can I switch them to med. feed then ...
so long story short.
I cleaned out a nest after hatching was done, two dead babies, 2 very rotten eggs, 1 peeping egg, yikes.
it's under the heat lamp, no progression, cold to the touch, moisture is good, I worry that it's dying. and I should intervene.
that being said, I do have the bator...
Here are some pics from today.
She started with 12 eggs, she broke 2.
Left with 10,
started to hatch Saturday, April 23, some hatched Easter Sunday. 2 have gone to a new home already, 2 are leaving on Saturday.
The pictures are of the two leaving Saturday, they are going to go be someones...
my duck eggs started hatching on Easter Sunday. And today, the hen is doing what hens do now, teaching babies to eat etc.
She had 4 unhatched under her, one was way rotten, was green, full of liquid, gross. and she had a dead one in there, so I cleaned out her nest. I grabbed egg #3. and went...
I just had a hen (chicken) hatch me some duck eggs. I have a gal that really wants to buy two tomorrow. What is the best way to take them from mama hen without stressing her and without me losing a hand?!
Should i cover her with a towel so she cant see, and i know covering the face is calming...
28 days ago, I gave my broody hen (chicken hen) 12 duck eggs to sit on.
10 made it to day 28, they started to pip yesterday. I don't know how many have hatched, mama is sitting firmly on her nest. Oh, I pray she's a good mama and not evil to them.
I can't wait to see their little faces. I have...
besides the obvious 28 day wait.
do I move her? Do I wait until they hatch, then move them as a family?
It's one of my welsh harlequins, I was hoping one was going to go broody soon, they've been super darn noisy lately. So, I've not been collecting the eggs,
well, today one decided not to...
Well, this is a first for me in my life. I saw a live , wild, disgusting rat. I went to lock up my chickens tonite, and there it was , scattering, clambering up the chicken run and out to its escape. I am thoroughly disgusted, concerned and sick that I now have to contend with this.
I have...
Fingers crossed I will have some ducklings hatching on the 24th of April. The eggs are under a chicken, I plan to take them away, as soon as fluffy and put into a brooder.
questions are:
currently I have a red heat lamp, are ducklings on the same type of heat schedule as chicks? or is a white...
I just checked on my chickens, i noticed blood , pure blood, no feces of any kind with it. I cant tell whi it is from, as they all appear happy. Could this be cocci ? Could it be from a hen that hasnt laid me an egg in a long while, do i treat for cocci just in case? Will it hurt them to...
April 13th, 2011
Here we go again. I am setting 41 more eggs tonite. I have to, my favorite blue hen has finally been laying again, I really want some of her babies. SO, here we go.
Anyone care to join me for round 2.
I will be setting all EE eggs again.
One of my favorite hens (of course) has sour crop. This I know, she stinks, the minute I picked her up she vomited, gross, what a smell.
Anyhoo. The crop is huge and squishy, and she obviously doesn't have much for an appetite. I have read conflicting reports on treatment and what to give to...
she was the only hen showing symptoms of anything, the others are happy and energetic.
this one just died about 15 minutes ago, I tried alot of things to perk her back up over the last few days. Did a body check.
Mites, gross. lots !!!
so, I have a Vapona pest strip, and I have eprinex...
