I received an order of Lavender Wyandottes from Greenfire farms yesterday. This is the third order of chicks we've got from them.
I don't know how or why, but the chicks came in very shook up. Already lost 3.
I have two chicks that can't see, and I'm afraid they'll starve in a day or two if I...
So my Langshan went broody last week, and just a couple days ago my Blue Polish started laying.
I haven't stored the eggs or anything, just put the eggs under my Langshan when my Polish layed them.
I have three eggs under her now, and I'm thinking about stopping there as not to create a large...
I know it's quite indeed late in the season, but I am about to move to a farm I used to live on, and I'll have a fresh new start for chickens. I'd like to have the flock of bantams I've always dreamed about, but I'm not too keen on waiting for spring, as I ship out for basic training for the...
I've already posted this on Tumblr and all, so I'll just copy/paste from there. I thought this was just plain interesting and I want to share it with someone!
So I’ve had the move series The Pacfic, a WWII movie series that follows several characters through the course of the war in the...
My three hens have been very friendly and obedient for the longest time; they loves to be pet and picked up, plus they came when I called them in for seeds so I could let my dogs out.
About a month ago, they didn't come for the seeds at all. I tried approaching them to pick them up, but they...
For all you newer folks, feast your eyes on this :P This what it used to look like
I just dug that up out of my pictures :P
I recognize every username under the thread creators. Man, it's been awhile, the only one of them, besides me, that I still see around is Crazyaboutchickens
Yesterday my Sumatra hen went broody!
She usually is in and out of the nest box very quickly, but yesterday she took her time. I eventually decided I needed to get the egg since I have no rooster. She growled and pecked, but I got it from underneath her. She then promptly left after realizing...

I'm in need of some help here. I got chicks coming on August 27th, and i have no where to put them. My parents will not allow the chicks be in the house whatsoever, and we don't have a garage; we have an open carport. My parents want to take a large cardboard box and put them in the box in the...
Ordered first time from a hatchery, MPC to be specific, and i have no idea what to expect. I mean, I've heard MPC is a good hatchery and all, but i don't really know and stuff.
I have 6 chicks being shipped out August 27th. A GLP, Black Sumatra, Welsummer, and 3 packing peanuts we had to order...
I've heard that Silkie bantams are not heat hardy at all, but recently i've seen people say they are. I'm ordering some chicks once i move down to Louisiana later this summer, and it gets rather hot during the summer. I've seen 105 in Baton Rouge before. Would a silkie be ok in such heat? Thanks!
i'm moving to Central Louisiana this summer (it's right by Baton Rouge) and my parents are letting me get chickens and/or ducks if the laws allow it. however, i can't find info on keeping poultry on a suburban lot anywhere! could anyone help me out?
