    fox or cat?

In my experience, cats are the bottom if the pecking order, chickens are the boss! I wouldn't expect a cat to go after chickens!

    Slimy beak?

Hi, not been on here in ages! Just been out to my chickens and noticed one has something wrong with her beak. We had her at POL 2 months ago. She's eating, drinking and laying as normal and seems well in herself. Along the length of her beak is a slimy, jelly like, strip. I picked her up and...

Has anyone seen their hen lay an egg?

I watched one of my girls lay! I couldn't believe it just popped out, i thought it would be more like a baby, going in and out a bit before making it fully out!

    flubenvet in grapes?

I have decided to worm my 3 chickens but the dosage for Flubenvet is tiny! I read on another forum to use a pinch per chicken in a grape. This sounds much easier and i know they've got it! Does this sound ok? Anyone done it?

    Will chickens eat 'dirty' food?

My 3 chickend knocked a weeks worth of food all over the floor last week. I swept it up and put it back in the hopper. It was 'dirty' ie had some bits of bedding and dry soil in with it. I didn't think they would bother as they eat other foods off the floor, but they didn't seem to eat much all...

    Poorly chicken!

We have 3 ex-battery hens, had them nearly a year. One is more nervous and always seemed 'older' than the other two. A few weeks ago she developed a squeaky cluck! It's the best i can explain it! It might not be linked but today she has her tail down and has been very quiet. I've seen her eating...

care if you eat fertile eggs?

My mother and children are vegetarian and don't eat eggs that could be fertilized. Personally i don't have a problem but i think if you knew someone was veggie you should tell them, of course they still might not be worried, views will vary.

    Escaping chickens!

Well they are still in there but it's only been a few hours! To think i didn't think chickens were very clever before we got them! We have a covered run as part of the coup but it's not really big enough for all the time! Nice for them their natural behaviours are coming back, but not so nice...

Do I have to do this forever???

I'm not sure why i want them to change! I asked the same question when i posted the problem last month! The general feeling was they should use the perch and would get the idea easily! I actually don't mind the dirty eggs, it's them sleeping in a dirty nest i don't like! I was having to...

Do I have to do this forever???

I guess they slept and laid in the same place, i was told they don't use the perch because they've never seen one and they would get the idea in a couple of weeks if i showed them!

Do I have to do this forever???

I posted here a month ago that my 3 ex-battery hens were sleeping in their nesting boxes. As suggested i have been blocking off the nest boxes in the afternoon and after dark i've been lifting them onto the perch to roost. One is uausally up but i lift the others. Everyone thinks i'm mad...

    Hooray! Baby mealworms!

Yes we started with worms! Bought them online the beginning of October! It's been really interesting (sad!) and educational for my kids too! I read a lot and there can be some problems but basically i've left them in one container and let them get on with it! Hope the chickens appreciate it!
