We got a good number of these chicks from MMH. Earlier pics were labeled as EF. We are wondering if that is still the general opinion or not?
Also, we have one that looks quite similar, but has feathered legs. I didn't get a picture of this one tonight.
Thank you in advance.

Ok, I just read some info from Lohman Animal Health. It is recommended to vaccinate breeding flocks at 16-18 weeks of age, before the onset of laying.
It says if you vaccinate when hens are laying the vaccine can cause reduced productivity and can pass through the egg and infect...

Oh, but I am aware of the common consequences, but have yet to see anything one way or the other about the eggs.
We choose to medicate because the State Vet (Wisc. Dept of Ag) who was out said we should. I suppose I should have consulted you first though for your opinion.
Also, as far...
We administered the AE vaccine supplied by MMH to our adult flock today.
Should we be concerned about the eggs produced by the hens and if so, for how long?
I know AE doesn't affect humans, so I would think the eggs would be fine.
Thank you for your input.

HAWKSTER: Thanks for pointing out my violation of BYC Rules. I did not realize that was prohibited. I am curious though, other than indicating my error, was there any other point you were trying to add to this topic?

Richard,
Not really, just that basically. All though I may be...

I'm not sure, but that is what your picture reminded me of.

If you have a Menards (or similar) around and are somewhat handy, these nesting boxes can be knocked out in a short time. Tools I used were a circular saw and a small gauge nail gun. Material cost was about $2 / box. Menard's has a scrap bin area, where you can get not perfect left-overs at a...
Ok, this is our second season raising chicks. We started last year with a dozen RIR from the local Farm and Fleet. Weird thing is, all the RIR developed at about the same rate.
From the first batch we received this year from MMH (Ornamental Layer Collection), we have quite a variety of breeds...
My wife just called, looks like out final 2 polish are on their way out. These were from the replacement MMH sent and would ne about 9 days old now. We haven't lost any in quite awhile, so seeing these affected the same way this much later is saddening. These were shipped in much warmer...
Stormhorse,
I see your from Indiana, but I'll try not to hold it against ya.
Just to let you know, men/guys/boys can and do like chickens as well as women/gals/girls do.
Teenage boys, um, I was one once. Their brains don't develop til much later.
Chickens and gardens? Last year was our first experience with chcikens and with any sizeable garden as well.
I gotta say, they really love the tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins and watermelons. I think the watermelons were the favorite, but it was hard to tell.
Four chickens may be more manageable...
Kris,
Hey, I've only recently escaped from Michigan, so am still learning my way around the state. I'm near the Int. Crane Foundation, is this related, or another organization? Do they have a website? I'd like to learn more. We may be interested, but need to know more.

It could be a combination of things, including the combination of chicks you ordered and quantities. The date you were given is likely the date when your combination is first available.
On the upside, you will get to enjoy the anticipation that much longer and will be just as happy if not more...
