Is this Pecking or something else?

We noticed about a week ago this girls comb had a piece missing and a bit of blood. We sprayed some vet Vetericyn, a couple days ago a bit more and today it looks like this. Any ideas what it is and how we can treat it? She seems to be eating, drinking and interacting as normal.

    Castile Soap?

I recently got a sample pack of green goo products. I see 1 of the items is a wash for chickens which is Castile soap. I’m assuming that Castile soap is safe for chickens but what are your thoughts on using it to lightly bath your flock? If it works I’d rather buy a less expensive version of...

    Older Hen Getting Aggressive?

3 if our girls are about 5-6 years old. I’ve notice that they seem to be getting a bit “pecky” towards the rest of the flock which are all about a year old. I’m just curious as chickens mature do they get a bit more aggressive? 1 of the 3 in particular I actually saw her jump on the back of...

What breed is this little lady?

We got this girl from a friend about 4 years ago and I still can’t figure out what breed she is. Anybody have any ideas as to what she may be?

    Marans Egg?

So we got a new egg today (I can tell by it’s size). It has to be from one of our FBCM however I’m questioning the color. I think I expected it to be a touch darker. Our girl Gamora laid this egg (I think) and she’s not even 5 months old. I have 2 other girls her age but 1 is an OE so I know...

    Molt or something else?

One of my girls has lost a lot of feathers and doesn’t appear to be growing them back. She lost them about 2 months ago. I thought it was her first molt because she is a little over 1 year old. Then I thought it was a hard molt but now I’m questioning it. She has recently been spending more time...

    Is this normal?

One of our girls tends to lay eggs that are larger than a jumbo sized egg. The egg on the left is regular size the one on the right is the dinosaur egg. Is that large of an egg normal?

    Eggs in the run

We have 14 hens of laying age and they are all laying in nesting boxes. I also have 3 polish and 2 Cochins that are about 5 months old. I have 2 Broodies that we are trying to break of it. Suddenly today we found 2 eggs in the run, not even in the coop on the floor (that's where the other girls...

Can I switch to layer feed?

We have 3 polish and 2 Cochins all 5 months old. The rest of our flock are 8+ months and laying. Since the polish and Cochin breeds reaching laying age much older, can I switch everyone over to layer feed now or is it still too dangerous for the younger ones? Right now I have everyone on grower...

    Calling all Cochin experts

I have these 2 blue Cochins. They are about 18 weeks old and I'm not sure how to tell the sex I Cochins. I've been thinking the 1 on the right is a roo (hoping not) but I can't tell. Any thoughts?

    Where to keep the food?

Currently we keep water and food in both the run and the coop. Is that necessary or should we keep it in 1 place? I've just been curious.

    Do chickens need baths?

Does anyone give their chickens an actual bath or is there a product that will clean them? Obviously chickens get into all kinds of things but obviously with my white rocks they are more obviously dirty at times. Should I give them an actual bath and if so what do you use?

    Rubber egg??

I have 12 new layers that just started laying within the past 3 or so weeks and all seem to be laying fine. Today I was out with the flock and one of them just laid a rubber egg while she was pecking in the run. I barely realized what it was and just as quickly it was gone. Some of the other...

    Is this a concern?

We noticed yesterday that the wattle on one of our girls looked a little marked. I thought it was just dirt. Today it seemed to be more of it. We took some water and it didn't come off. Can anyone tell from the picture if it's an injury, illness or nothing at all? Thanks in advance

To Wash or Not to Wash?

So I don't normally wash our eggs from our chickens but yesterday they were pretty dirty which isn't normal and I had to wash them. The question is, regardless of the amount of yuck on the egg do you leave it as is to preserve it or do you wash it? And if you wash it I thought I read somewhere...

    1st New Egg

Our girls are finally starting to reach the egg laying age. We got our first new egg yesterday. As my husband kept saying "it's the cutest little egg". I'm still trying to figure out which girl it was. But here's a silly question. When hens start laying for the first time, are their eggs true...

I think my girl is sick. :(

We have 6 8 week olds that we integrated into our flock. Took some time but they all seemed to have adjusted. Yesterday, out of the blue, 1 of our Polish was just laying there. She wouldn't eat, wouldn't move, didn't fight from being picked up. I went out with her again today and she still...

    Breed and gender thoughts?

This was actually a replacement bird that I think they replaced incorrectly as far as breed and gender. I'm thinking this is a cockerel but would like some opinions and thoughts on breed. This picture is at 7 weeks old. Excuse the photo bomb of the white rock. Lol

    Pecking Problem and need help

My flock is 10 weeks old. They all grew up together in the same brooder and no issues. We moved them outside Tuesday and by Thursday 1 of them had been pecked so bad on the backend she was bleeding. We cleaned her up, put some blukote on her and kept her isolated for 2 days to heal a little...
