Update: My husband admitted he lied about checking. MYSTERY SOLVED.

Nope! She's in the garage for the winter, and she's housed alone with some babies (babies are just under 1 month old) following a fox attack & surgery in October.

I'm so glad you noticed that! We rarely see hawks out here, but there have been some eagles. There are no tall trees around, which makes it a less friendly area for them. I bet they were glad to get out after that! Thank you for all your advice. Kate
